Before 4790k+970 installed ubuntu16.04, there were not so many problems. The installation was smooth. After the 970 switch to 1080Ti, the driver installation is always problematic. Later on-line search, the specific steps are as follows (assuming that the WIN10 has been installed, the default HDMI or DP port to a single display of the video port):
1. Remove Secure bootfrom the motherboard (otherwise, the login interface will be infinitely duplicated after the driver is installed on this side), and cancel the quick start of the WIN10 (it is unclear how this does not cancel).
2. The BIOS is set to use CPU for the kernel display , turn off the computer.
3. Switch the video port to the video port of the motherboard (use the output at the time of the display).
4. Start the computer, try the ubuntu16.04.1 from the USB stick, install Ubuntu in Ubuntu (it was previously said to be installed directly, others say it is installed in the trial system, I am the latter).
5. When the system is installed, open the terminal.
6. Add the PPA source to the terminal.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
7. Install the latest graphics driver in the terminal:
sudo sudo Install nvidia-381
8. After the drive is installed, I do not remember whether it will be black screen after the direct black screen or restart. At this time, restart, into the BIOS, the video output is set to use a single display (or auto).
9. Turn off the computer. Go to the video interface of the video card.
10. Open the computer, you can enter the normal Ubuntu. The system can also correctly identify the 1080Ti.
Description: A current stable version of the driver is 378, the beta version is 381. Someone used 378 to successfully install the driver. My side of the direct use of the 381 beta. can also be used normally.
b I do not need to block the Nouveau driver here.
C Before using 970-pack ubuntu16.04, from start to finish is the video line to the unique display, this time is also received 1080Ti, but has not been installed successfully (in fact, may be secure boot reason. Given the success of the current installation, it is too lazy to toss ... ), then searched, changed to first use the nuclear display installation system and the driver, and then switch to a single display.
D As of now, the PPA only provides a ubuntu16.04.1 drive, no 16.04.2 drive, so the final installation is ubuntu16.04.1. It is unclear whether the official Ubuntu driver can support 16.04.2. No tests.
e because there is no domestic mirror, the source of the PPA is too slow/(ㄒoㄒ)/~~
f The use of the nuclear installation system and graphics driver is the reference to the second URL (video card is 1080, not 1080Ti). Of course, I've been pretending to be a lot of ubuntu these days ...
G If you need to uninstall the Nvidia driver (such as entering the infinite login interface), in the terminal or Tty1 console Ctrl+alt+f1 (after entering the account and password) input:
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
Rebooting the system will use the Nouveau driver by default.
