We usually install the system on the C drive, but after using it for a while, we will find that the space of the C drive is getting less and less. Especially those we develop will install a lot of software on the computer. For example, if I have 15 GB space on the C drive on my machine and can install the software on other disks as long as I can choose it, but after half a year, the C drive has only MB space left, the reason is that, on the one hand, the Windows system will occupy a lot of space, and on the other hand, some system files will be installed on the C drive during software installation.
Here are some methods for clearing the C drive. You are also welcome to add:
1. Windows uses virtual memory, which is stored on the drive C by default. It occupies more than one GB of space and can be set to other drive letters.
Setting Method: My computer> Properties> advanced> performance> Settings> advanced> virtual memory
2. Move the servicepackfiles file about MB
To ensure system reliability and stability, Windows has a "File Protection" Background Service, which is enabled by default and monitors all protected system files, if you find an attempt to replace or move a protected system file, it can block it directly. After the file is replaced abnormally, Windows will automatically restore the file. The servicepackfiles folder protects Service Pack files and provides installation and maintenance services for some system components.
Setting Method: Move the c: \ windows \ servicepackfiles directory to another disk and modify the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Setup \ servicepacksourcepath
3. Clear temporary ie files, recycle bin,
Delete the c: \ windows \ Temp Directory, c: \ Documents and Settings \ USERNAME \ Local Settings \ Temp Directory
4. Clear the files left by Windows patching, which occupies a large space.
In Windows, some patches are often applied. After patching, some files are left for recovery. However, these files are usually unavailable and can be deleted.
Delete all files in the c: \ windows \ $ hf_mig $ directory
C: \ windows \ $ ntuninstallkb *** $ type directory
5. Remove debugging information to save several hundred MB of space
Windows uses a large disk space to save the dump file when the system crashes. In general, this file is rarely viewed. We can remove it.
Open Control Panel → System Properties → advanced → start and fault recovery, change "Write debugging information" to "NONE" to clear dump files
6. compress the NTFS drive
Right-click the drive to be compressed-"properties"-"general"-"compress the disk to save disk space", and then click "OK ", select the required option in "confirm property change. This saves about 20% of the hard disk space. When compressing a C disk, it is best to compress it in safe mode, which is better.
7. Some files after SQL Server is upgraded to SP1
After the upgrade, some files will be left on drive C. Files under c: \ Program Files \ Microsoft SQL Server \ 90 \ setup Bootstrap can be deleted, which is about 500 mb.
8. delete the file under c: \ msocache, which is the installation cache file of the Office.
9. delete files in c: \ Program Files \ msecache. For example, after mosssdk is installed, the installation files will be saved in this directory.
