Sun Microsystems launched 24 new innovative products and technologies in its new network computing product release in third quarter of 2004. Sun has extended its Sun StorEdge storage product line, previewed new features of the Solaris (TM) 10 operating system, and released a low-cost system based on the iSCSI (R) and AMD opteron microprocessor, these new systems create new benchmark performance and cost-effective records. Sun's innovative technologies lay the foundation for deploying new network services for the customer, while reducing the cost and complexity of the network computing infrastructure.
"Galloping in the field of technology is completely in line with the evolution of the survival of Darwin's Fittest: enterprises can continue to advance in innovation, or die in confusion. In the past 20 years, Sun has many of the most innovative and creative thinkers on our planet. They have the extraordinary ability to turn innovative ideas into practical products, "That's why we continue to invest heavily in R & D," said Scott mcnealy, chairman and CEO of sun, why are we introducing so many new products or making major upgrades to our products every quarter. We stick to the tradition of innovation, which is an important reason for us to stay at the forefront of network computing technology and keep moving forward ."
Major releases include:
· New and Innovative storage systems: the advent of these new products makes sun the only storage resource vendor that can meet any data management needs.
· Sun StorEdge (TM) 6920 is an innovative mid-range storage system that sets new standards for scalability and cost effectiveness.
· The Sun StorEdge 9990 system is a new high-end enterprise-level storage platform with breakthrough virtualization, data replication, data mobility, and other functions.
· Sun StorEdge 5210 NAS device, a platform that supports heterogeneous operating systems.
· The New System of Sun StorEdge 6920 is provided in the public computing pricing model, and the storage solution of "pay-as-you-go" launched by Sun has been extended. This is the sun public computing mode (sunsm utility computing) for the mid-range Sun StorEdge system. The starting price (US directory price) is 80 cents per SPU (Sun power unit) per month, this includes hardware, software, installation services, and support services.
· Sun StorEdge Traffic Manager software, integrated in the Solaris 10 operating system. It makes the newly added storage resources automatically identified and easy to deploy to expand the size of the storage environment. When Sun released the Solaris 10 Operating System in November 2004, it will provide the new software through the software Express project, as well as porting tools and service support. Sun (TM) Studio 10 software is planned to be released in the next quarter, it will meet the performance requirements of developers in developing 64-bit applications based on AMD opteron and Intel Nocona processor Solaris systems. Sun also released the Solaris 10 developer collection project, which is provided through the sunsm developer network. It is a project that provides developers with comprehensive technical information, community activities and support, to accelerate the adoption of Solaris 10 OS.
· Java (TM) 2 platform Standard Edition 5th (j2se (TM) 5) (whose encoding name is Tiger), which is the Java platform andProgramming LanguageThe most significant upgrade since the first version was launched nearly 10 years ago. J2se 5 will be released in 30 days and integrated into Solaris 10 OS.
· An updated version of Sun (TM) Cluster software, a Sun high availability platform that improves the predictability and flexibility of key enterprise applications.
· The New Solaris server based on ultrasparc (R) and opteron processors provides industry-leading throughput and cost effectiveness:
· Sun Fire (TM) v490 and Sun Fire (TM) v890 servers, based on ultrasparc IV chip multithreading (CMT) technology, this doubled the throughput of Sun's existing 4-way and 8-way systems at the same price point, surpassing comparable systems of HP and IBM.
· Sun Fire v40z 4-way Solaris Server recently launched, which can also run Red Hat Linux, SuSE Linux or Windows operating systems and has passed Microsoft hardware compatibility (HCL) certification.
· Sun's merger with nauticus networks gives us a glimpse of tomorrow's networking technologies. Its new technology will be integrated into sun's future systems to improve security, networking performance, and resource optimization capabilities.
