Mongoisedb, an open-source database vendor, declared war on Oracle, the database market leader, based on a survey ". The survey shows that Oracle is not good for open source. The survey sample is from 600 people at the JavaOne conference.

Sampling may not be scientific, and numbers may also be fraudulent, but at least it can also prove the poor reputation of Oracle in open source.

1. What is open source?

Open Source and Open Source are registered as certification marks by the non-profit software organization (Open Source Initiative Association of the United States) and formally defined, it is used to describe software whose source code can be used by the public, and its use, modification, and issuance are not subject to license restrictions.

Open source not only indicates open source code. Open-source software defined from the perspective of release must meet the following conditions:

1. Free re-release

A license cannot restrict any group from selling or giving away software. The software can be one of the first software releases integrated with programs from different sources. Licenses do not require license fees or other fees for such sales.

2. program source code

The program must contain the source code. The release must contain both the compilation form and the program source code. When a product is released in a certain form without source code, you must be clearly informed about how to download the source code for free on the Internet. The source code must be provided in a preferred form when the programmer modifies the program. It is not allowed to intentionally disturb the source code. It is not allowed to use an intermediate form such as a Preprocessing Program or translator as the source code.

3. Derivative Program

The license must be allowed to change or derive programs. These programs must be allowed to be issued under the same license as the initial software.

4. Author source code integrity

Only when the license is allowed in the program development phase and the release of the patch file is released together with the source code for the purpose of program adjustment can the license restrict the source code to be issued in a modified form. The license must explicitly allow the issuance of programs established by the changed source code. A license may require that the derived program use a different name or version number from the initial software.

5. No personal or group discrimination

The license cannot be used by any individual or by any group in a specialized field. For example, it is not possible to restrict the application of programs in the business or genetic research.

7. License Issuance

The power of the accompanying procedure must apply to all program distributors without the need to attach the license signature and seal between those groups.

8. A product cannot be customized under a license

If a program is part of a special software release, the power that comes with the program cannot only come from this release. If the program is extracted from that release, the license for the program is used or issued, all groups of the distribution program shall have all the powers permitted by the initial software version.

9. Other software cannot be excluded from licenses

The license cannot restrict other software that is issued along with the license software. For example, a license does not require that all other software released together be open source software.

10. License instance

Gnu gpl, BSD, X Consortiun, and Artistic licenses are all licenses that we consider to comply with the definition of open source software. The same is true for MPL.
