The ServerCore installation mode is introduced in Windows Server 2008. After installation, there is no graphical interface. This can provide better performance, more security, and reduce the space occupied by the installation.
This feature has been significantly improved in Windows Server 8. That is, the complete mode of Windows Server 8 and ServerCore are mutually transferred, while the conversion process only requires one command. The following describes how to use it.
1. After the ServerCore mode of Windows Server 8 is installed, only a command prompt window is displayed after you log on. If you want to configure it, you need to use the command line for configuration.
2. Check the memory size occupied by Windows Server 8 in ServerCore mode, and open the Task Manager (taskmgr.exe ). In ServerCore mode, Windows Server 8 only occupies MB of memory.
3. Now I use a command to convert ServerCore mode Windows Server 8 to Windows Server 8 on the complete interface. Run the following command: dism/online/enable-feature/featurename: servercore-fullserver/featurename: server-gui-shell/featurename: server-gui-mgmt. Then press enter to start the conversion.
4. After a while, the system will prompt you to restart. After the restart is complete, Windows Server 8 will be displayed.
5. After logging on, the system automatically opens the Server Manager.
6. Let's take a look at the memory occupied by Windows Server 8 on the complete interface, which occupies a total of MB of memory.
7. Next we will convert the Windows Server 8 on the complete interface to the ServerCore mode, or use a simple command
Dism/online/disable-feature/featurename: servercore-fullserver
Through the above introduction, we can easily use the Dism command to achieve the full mode of Windows Server 8 and ServerCore conversion; in this way, the administrator can use the complete graphical interface during configuration, after the configuration is complete, the server is converted to the ServerCore mode, which not only facilitates the Administrator configuration, but also improves the performance and security in operation.
