Today, enterprises urgently want DBA database administrators and developers to integrate company data to help them manage information, mine customers' databases, or meet daily requirements. Sybase is meeting this demand with a new product called Sybase Data Integration (DI) suite. The main functions of this new technology include:

◆ Access multiple different data sources and create a single and Integrated Data View
◆ Access various heterogeneous data sources, including mainframe data sources
◆ Capture real-time events in the data source and spread them to applications
◆ Use context search to search and query information in structured and unstructured data
◆ Use Sybase WorkSpace to develop applications

Data integration is introduced in two parts. In the first part, we will detail all the functions of Sybase Data Integration suite, this section focuses on the Data Federation and enterprise information integration (EII) examples. In the second part, we will go deep into copying, searching, real-time events, and ETL data extraction, conversion, and loading ).

Components of Sybase Data Integration suite

What is enterprise information integration?

Data Federation

As described above, Federation simplifies the process of integrating data from multiple distributed sources and is able to access integrated enterprise data. You can use it:

◆ Obtain a single virtual view of data from multiple sources, including relational databases and applications that support JDBC/ODBC access through JCA or Web services), Web Service, XML document or file. The "Federated" method means that data is extracted from the original data source, rather than from the data copy or dataset.
◆ Provide federated data in the form of Web services, SQL views accessed using JDBC/ODBC) or flat files to applications that need such data. Therefore, the application does not need to create a federated query or directly access the source database, but can access the data federated server to execute its query.
◆ Use GUI-based tools to define data sources and queries, and store these queries in directories for execution, search, and reuse by applications. It also supports instant query.
◆ Change the data source mode or move the database to another server without damaging the application. You only need to modify the Web service or SQL view that the application is using.
◆ Relying on security support for user authentication and common enterprise authentication modes and fine-grained access control related to queries defined in the EII layer.
◆ Determine which users have logged on to the server and what queries they have run.
◆ Build a data service layer for service-oriented applications to separate the data layer from the business logic.

The DI kit also contains a data Federation server that provides EII functions and tools. You can use the package installer to install the EII function and Sybase WorkSpace to install the tool.
