Business challenges
By enabling physicians, nurses and medical personnel to access the patient's data anywhere, to improve patient care and reduce the cost of care.
Solution
The Cogon system's moment of Care information Systems (Instant Care Information System) is supported by ianywhere Solutions product SQL Anywhere Studio Database and synchronization technology.
Results
15% less time for medical staff to track patient data
Reduced potential worsening cases, saving tens of thousands of dollars a month for hospitals
Industry: Medical
System Configuration
The Instant Care Information System (MCIS) uses Ultralite, sql Anywhere Studio's deployment options to run on Palm PDAs and Pocket PC PDAs, as well as Windows desktop PCs and Tablet PCs.
The central database runs on Windows Server.
Data synchronization between the PDA and the central database uses the Mobilink synchronization technology with infrared devices and bases that support the 802.11 wireless protocol.
Hospital patients naturally believe that the small number of short visits a doctor spends every day is the whole time a doctor pays attention and care to them. However, this is not the case. Huy Dr. Nguyen said, "I find that my time with patients is very limited." Because of this, I have a lot of time in the day to consider their diagnosis and treatment. That's what I've defined for ' instant care ', or the medical staff found themselves taking care of patients all the time. When these moments happen to me?? No matter under what circumstances?? It is important to have access to information that I need to make accurate judgments about and to protect patients anytime, anywhere. ”
However, in a typical hospital environment, the only way to access this information is to visit the patient in the ward, check some forms, or get the latest condition and test results by constantly calling the nurse's desk, laboratory or radiology department. If these are done or browsed by physicians, it will certainly take a lot of time. To enable physicians, nurses and other medical personnel to access these critical information, Nguyen, together with Cogon systems, has established an instant Care Information System (MCIS) with SQL Anywhere Studio ianywhere Solutions.
MCIS processes data stored in different hospital information systems to centralize the data in a relational database. MCIS then publishes the information to healthcare professionals ' desktop PCs and mobile devices, keeping the healthcare information handy at hand.
"MCIS," explained David Hsu,cogon's partner and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), "is creating a new data pipeline that allows health care providers to improve the quality of care and cost-effectiveness." Physicians, nurses, and other users of the system can synchronize their PDA with a central server, or directly connect to a central server based on the Web interface, in accordance with the need to frequently access and update the patient's information, simply based on the base, IR port or LAN connection. Our design for MCIS also ensures that existing mainframe systems are available and secure, compatible with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and accountablitiy Act). ”
"We chose SQL Anywhere studio as our mobile database and synchronization technology for several reasons, first of all, we understand that SQL Anywhere studio is a leading mobile data management solution. Its ' Forever available ' model fits perfectly with our application model, and its open technology allows us to support multiple platforms and use the same code set in the future. ”

SQL Anywhere Studio: "Leading mobile data management solutions"
At the heart of the MCIS system is the Ianywhere solutions Company's SQL Anywhere Studio. We chose SQL Anywhere studio as our mobile database and synchronization technology for several reasons, "Hsu says:" First, we understand that SQL Anywhere studio is a leading mobile data management solution. Its ' Forever available ' model fits perfectly with our application model, and its open technology allows us to support multiple platforms and use the same code set in the future. ”
Currently, MCIS supports Palm PDAs, Pocket PC PDAs, and Windows desktop systems, notebooks, and tablets. In the future, Cogon hopes to expand support for Symbian and possibly even support RIM's BlackBerry and J2ME devices. "The open architecture of SQL Anywhere Studio is the possibility of this broad support," Hsu said, "while allowing us to connect to a variety of backend systems." ”
"Using the Mobilink synchronization technology of SQL Anywhere Studio also allows us to publish only the data we need to the user, not all the information." This ' tailoring ' of data and the ability to publish to end users increases the efficiency of the system and enables end users to sync mobile devices within 30 seconds. With the capabilities of SQL Anywhere Studio, we believe that there is no need to evaluate other vendors ' mobile solutions. ”
