Symantec Oracle launches Veritas Data Center Certification

Recently, Oracle and Symantec jointly announced that they will authenticate the Veritas Data Center Software using Oracle Enterprise Linux in response to customers' increasing demands for Oracle Unbreakable Linux support programs. This certification will help enterprises running Symantec software on Linux to shorten deployment time and reduce implementation costs.

Oracle's indestructible Linux program was launched in 2006 to help promote Linux adoption in enterprises. The software provides customers with industry-leading global Linux support. Oracle Enterprise Linux is a feature of Oracle's indestructible Linux scheduler and is fully compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

With this latest certification, Oracle's indestructible Linux program that deploys Veritas solutions on Oracle Enterprise Linux will support enterprises from these two vendors.

This certification covers the following six Veritas Data Center Software Products: Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0; Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle 5.0; Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System 5.0; veritas Cluster Server 5.0, Veritas NetBackup 6.0 Client and Veritas i3.

Wim Coekaerts, vice president of Oracle Linux engineering, said: "We are expanding our cooperation with industry leaders to simplify Linux adoption, development, and deployment within the enterprise. Oracle's indestructible Linux program Support Program has been showing a strong momentum of development. Enterprise customers using Linux want to make full use of enterprise-level storage management and high availability processes and standards, which is also the pillar of their UNIX environment. Our cooperation with Symantec makes it easier for customers to deploy Symantec solutions on Oracle Enterprise Linux.

Symantec and Oracle jointly certified Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System Using Oracle Real Application Clusters on Oracle Enterprise Linux, Red Hat and SUSE. this will provide Oracle Real Application Clusters running Linux customers with the option to deploy Symantec's scalable file system and enterprise-level storage management solutions.

Rob Soderbery, senior vice president of Symantec Storage Foundation Group, said: "using a standardized software architecture that supports heterogeneous data centers can help enterprises reduce complexity and costs while improving service levels. Through continuous cooperation with Oracle, our customers are now able to deploy Veritas's high availability, data protection, and storage management solutions in data centers that use any major operating system-including Oracle Enterprise Linux."
