See the following error message in the Linux log/var/log/message:
OCT 09:48:42 xxxxxxx symbdsnap_sdk[3943]: Failed to open device:/dev/symbdsnapctl, Errno:2.
Google searched and found the cause of the error:
Advanced Open File Option for Linux (AOFO-L) is not supported for the use with the kernel version. (For details, please see NOTE below.)
Note:
"Symbdsnap" in messages was a driver name for aofo-l.
The requisite to enable aofo-l depends on the kernel versions rather than Linux OS versions.
refer to the following URL for the kernel version corresponding for each Red Hat release version, since the AVA Ilable kernel versions is not described on software compatibility List (SCL) for Backup Exec.
https://access.redhat.com/site/articles/3078
For instance:
software Compatibility List (SCL) for Backup Exec says, Aofo-l is supported for the use with Red Hat 6 Update 1. Red Hat says, the kernel version for Red hat 6, Update 1 is 2.6.32-131.0.15.
Aofo-l is supported for the use with 2.6.32-131.0.15 as a consequence. If the kernel version is 2.6.32-220 or later, aofo-l are not supported as of the August 2013.
Symbdsnap is the device name for Aofo-l.
Enabling AOFO-L requires support for the appropriate kernel version, not some Linux versions.
Please refer to the URL below to compare the corresponding kernel version for each redhat version.
It is known that the kernel version used by Redhat is no longer in the compatibility List of Backup Exec.
https://access.redhat.com/site/articles/3078
Example Description:
Redhat says the kernel version of Redhat 6 Update 1 is 2.6.32-131.0.15.
AOFO-L supports 2.6.32-131.0.15 kernel version. If the kernel version is
2.6.32-220 or newer version, AOFO-L is not supported after 2013.8.12.
Error-only version of Oracle Linux Server release 5.7, kernel version 2.6.32-200.13.1.el5uek
#1 SMP Wed Jul 21:02:33 EDT 2011
So the above error occurred. However, this message can be ignored. Perform a backup without using Aofo L.
