Installing the Microsoft Sysprep tool for VMware vCenter Server Appliance
After you download and install the Microsoft Sysprep tool from the Microsoft Web site, you can use the VMware vCenter Server Appliance Web console to upload files to your device.
Prerequisite
Confirm that the downloaded version corresponds to the client operating system version that you want to customize. For each version of Windows and service packs, Microsoft has a different version of Sysprep. You must use a Sysprep version that is specific to the operating system that you want to deploy.
When you upload a file to VCenter Server Appliance, the contents of the CAB file for the version of the Sysprep tool that you downloaded are saved in/etc/vmware-vpx/sysprep/os. For example,/etc/vmware-vpx/sysprep/2k or/ETC/VMWARE-VPX/SYSPREP/XP.
Steps
1
Download the Sysprep file from the Microsoft Download Center and save the files to your local system.
2
Log on to the VMware vcenter Server Appliance Web Console, and then click the VCenter Server Summary tab.
3
In the Utilities panel, click the Sysprep File Upload button.
4
Select the Windows platform directory and browse to the file.
5
Click Open.
The file is uploaded to VCenter Server Appliance.
6
Click Close.
When you clone an existing virtual machine, you can customize the new virtual machines through the supported Windows guest operating systems.
