Customers typically have a definite idea of the number of ports. I feel that this is somewhat unusual because people often have no such opinions about other things in life. However, when it comes to the number of ports on a raid or HBA controller, we do have a very fixed view.

For example: I have two ssd--oh, you do not have two port controller, then I will look at four ports. But I will not consider the 16-port controller Anyway, because my mind is stuck in the number of drives I currently have. Unfortunately, in fact, regardless of whether you are aware of this right now, what you need is a 16-port controller.

The following will also go back to discussing the issue. Now, let's compare the attitude of other things in life with the RAID controller. The speed limit (on the highway) in my country of residence (Australia) is 110 km/h. So why do I need a motorbike that travels more than 110 km/h? Why on earth should I buy a Ducati monster that can track 265 km/h?

Look at one more thing.

I've recently raised my four-car chassis-I have several options: standard height, 30mm or 60mm. Well, because most of the time I'm still on the road, I can totally use the standard height, but guess what--my wife needs a ladder to get in now because I've raised it 60mm.
So, when it comes to my drive, it seems that I have no solid view of the limitations required by law or common sense, but when the problem is choosing a RAID card, I do have my fixed opinion (just like most customers).

You guessed it--I was babbling about the PMC 71605e--. A 16-port "entry-level" control card, high-speed, high-performance, and inexpensive, is the perfect choice for a raid 10 array of SSDs (or HDDs). But have customers seriously studied the product? The answer is in the negative. Because the number of ports supported by this card is 16, the customer's brain is fixed on a 4-port or 8-port controller. It seems that the driving I chose is to fully meet my needs, rather than to be purchased in accordance with the law or the criteria determined by my wife's height. Isn't that exactly the way we choose the controller? What exactly meets my "performance" requirements, not my "number" requirements.

If the PMC Marketing department is headquartered in Australia, we can post an ad with a headline titled "Who cares about how many ports there are?" "It's just a fantasy, but in the end, it's exactly what you need to engrave in the customer's mindset--don't think about the number of drives you have, and start thinking about which controller has enough processing power to meet your needs." The discussion was focused on SSD users, who have made up their minds to adopt faster devices but have yet to change the way they think about choosing a control card-and that change is imminent.

Back to my motorcycle analogy .... I can buy cheap tires, and I can buy Pirelli tires that are ridiculously expensive and far beyond my ability to drive-guess what I'm buying (certainly not cheap and shabby)-I want my motorcycle to have the ability to run to its extreme performance- Although its owner has ceased to be the same day.

So, stop thinking about the number of ports ... think about Performance (PMC's 7 Series and 8 series).

A Mild fixation ...

Customers has a fixation on port numbers. Ifind it a bit unusual because we tend not to having the same sort of fixation onanything else we do in life. However when it comes to port count on Raidcontrollers or HBA ' s we definitely has a fixation.

EXAMPLE:I has 2 x ssd–hmm, you don't have a 2-port controller so I "ll look at 4-portinstead. I'll never even think about looking at + port controllers because I ' mfixated on the number of drives I currently has. That ' s a shame because infact it's the 16-port controller that's you need, whether you currently recogniseit or not.

I ' ll come back to, but let's look at the rest of our life compared to raidcontrollers. Why Onearth would I own a Ducati Monster this ' s capable of around 265km/h (don ' t tellthe wife that).

SoI has no fixation on the limits imposed is, or the limits imposed by Common-sense when it comes to my vehicles, But I certainly has one (as do most customers) when it comes to choosing RAID cards.

You guessed it–i ' m banging in about the71605e again–a port "entry" card that's absolutely perfect for RAID ten Onss D (or HDD for-that matter) –fast, capable and cheap (ish). But does customer sever look at it?

No, because it ' s ports and they arefixated on 4 and 8 port controllers. So I own the vehicles this suit my needs,not vehicles that is dictated to me by random numbers imposed by the law or MyWi Fe ' s height. Funny enough that ' s the the-should look at Controllers–what suits my "performance" requirements, not what suits my "n Umbers "Requirements.

        If Our Marketing department was based in Australia we ' d run an ad campaignentitled: "Who gives a *^%&$ how many ports the thi Ng has? ". Can ' t reallysee that ever happening in this company, but at the end of the "What's that" s what needs to be embedded in custome R Mindsets–stop Thinking about the number of drives you have, and start thinking about what controllers has the Processin G Performance to handle your requirements. This is mostly addressed at SSD users because while they has made up their mind to use a faster device, they still haven ' T changed their mindset about which controllers Card they should use–and they need to big time.

Using my bike as analogy again ... I can buy cheap tyres, or I can buy ridiculously expensive Pirelli ' s that is far more capable than my riding ability–an D Guess what I buy (certainly isn't the cheap and nasty) –i want to give my bikethe ability to perform to it's full potenti Al–even if the rider isn ' t as capable as he once was.

So stop thinking port count ... and start thinking performance (7 and 8 series).
