To set up Remote Desktop connections in Windows XP
New Remote Desktop Connection in Windows XP, with Remote Desktop Connection, allows users to connect computers from other locations to the desktop of the local computer, perform programs on the local computer, or use a local computer to connect to a computer desktop in a different location, and perform programs on other computers, which is very handy and practical.
12.7.1 set up Remote Desktop Connection
Set up Remote Desktop Connection, the user must first establish a connection with the Internet or set up a terminal server in the local area network.
Before you can make a remote Desktop connection, you need to set up some settings for your desktop connection, as follows:
(1) Click the "Start" button and select "All Programs" ∣ "attachment" ∣ "Communication" ∣ "Remote Desktop Connection" command.
(2) Open the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box, as shown in Figure 12.31.


(3) Click the "Options" button to expand all dialog boxes.
(4) Select the General tab, as shown in Figure 12.32.


(5) In the Computer text box of the Login Settings option group, the name of the computer to which you want to make Remote Desktop Connection; Enter the user name for the login in the username text box, enter the user's login password in the password text box, and enter the domain name to log in in the field text box, and if the user wants to save the password, You can select the Save secret check box.
(6) Click the Save As button in the Connection Settings option group to save the current settings information and save it so that the user can click the Open button and open it to save the settings.
(7) Click the "Connect" button, you can do a remote Desktop connection.
(8) The "Login to" dialog box will pop up, as shown in Figure 12.33.


(9) Enter the name of the logged-on user in the User Name text box of the dialog box, enter the login password in the password text box, and select the domain to log on in the log on to Drop-down list.
(10) Click on the "OK" button to log on to the computer desktop, as shown in Figure 12.34.


(11) After the login is successful, the user can use the program in the Remote Desktop to do the operation.
Note: The remote Desktop that the author chooses to log on uses the Windows Server version of the operating system, and the remote Desktop to which the user is logged on may vary depending on how the other person uses the operating system. Users using programs from this Remote Desktop do not affect the normal operation of the computer.
12.7.2 Setting the way Remote Desktop Connection is displayed
By default, a remote Desktop connection is displayed in Full-screen mode, allowing the user to change its display size to display in 800*600 pixels or in 640*480 pixels, or to change the color display of the desktop, which operates as follows:
(1) Click the "Start" button, select "All Programs" ∣ "∣" ∣ "Remote Desktop Connection" command, open the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box.
(2) Click the "Options" button to expand the dialog box.
(3) Select the Display tab, as shown in Figure 12.35.


(4) In the Remote Desktop size option group, drag the slider to change the size of the remote Desktop. Drag the slider to the far right, you can display it in full screen, drag the slider to the middle, 800*600 pixels, drag the slider to the left, and display 640*480 pixels.
(5) In the Color option group, click the Color Drop-down list to select a color display for the remote desktop, such as a 256-color, enhanced color (16-bit), or True Color (24-bit) color display, and a preview of the selected color style in the preview box below.
(6) If the "Show connection bar full screen display" checkbox is selected, the connection bar will be displayed in full screen.
12.7.3 set up local resources for Remote Desktop Connection
In a Remote Desktop Connection setting, the user can choose whether to bring the remote computer's voice, keyboard, to the local computer, and select the local device to connect to when logging on to the Remote Desktop. Setting up local resources for Remote Desktop Connection can be done as follows:
(1) Click the "Start" button, select "All Programs" ∣ "attachment" ∣ "Communication" ∣ "Remote Desktop Connection" command, open the "Distant Desktop Connection" dialog box.
(2) Click the "Options" button to expand all dialog boxes.
(3) Select the Local Resources tab, as shown in Figure 12.36.


(4) In the remote computer Sounds option group on this tab, users can choose to bring the sound on the remote computer to the local machine, do not play the sound on the teleoperation computer, and leave the sound on the remote computer on the computer.
(5) In the Keyboard option group, users can choose to use the keyboard method on the local computer, use the keyboard on a remote computer, or use Full-screen mode only.
(6) In the Local Devices option group, users can select local devices that need to be automatically connected when logging on to a remote computer. The user can set up automatic connection when logging on to a remote computer by simply selecting the checkbox in front of the appropriate local device.
12.7.4 setting up a program when you log on to a remote computer
When you log on to a remote computer, the user can also set the specified program to start automatically at logon, with the following details:
(1) Click the "Start" button, select "All Programs" ∣ "∣" ∣ "Remote Desktop Connection" command, open the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box.
(2) Click the "Options" button to expand the dialog box.
(3) Select the Programs tab, as shown in Figure 12.37.


(4) In this tab, users can select the start the following program on Connection check box in the Startup Programs option group. The program path and file name and start in the following folder text boxes become available.
(5) The user can enter information such as the path and filename of the program to start at logon when the program path and filename and the start in the following folder text box.
(6) Click the Connect button to start the specified program at logon.
12.7.5 optimized Remote Desktop Connection performance
Users can choose the connection speed for Remote Desktop Connection performance optimization settings, when the conditions allow users to choose a higher connection speed, so that they play a greater performance. To optimize connection performance for Remote Desktop, perform the following actions:
(1) Click the "Start" button, select "All Programs" ∣ "∣" ∣ "Remote Desktop Connection" command, open the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box.
(2) Click the "Options" button to expand all dialog boxes.
(3) Select the Advanced tab, as shown in Figure 12.38.


(4) In this tab, the user can choose the maximum connection speed that can be reached. Once you have selected the appropriate connection speed, you will be able to display the functionality that the connection speed can achieve in the allow the following features.
