Ultralite Database Upgrade Path

Because you can create an Ultralite database in many different ways, the upgrade process may also vary. The following table lists the methods to upgrade the database.

If you need to upgrade an earlier version of:

· Schema file (. USM)

• Database files (. udb)

· Palm OS database records (. pdb)

Use this tool:

Upgrade Database Wizard or uninstall legacy Database Tools (Ulunloadold) and LOAD Database Tools (Ulload)

If you need to upgrade an earlier version of:

Ultralite database mapped from SQL Anywhere database (make sure you have upgraded the SQL anywhere database)

Use this tool:

Extract Database Wizard or initialize database (ulinit)

Ultralite Database Upgrade Tool

You can upgrade an existing Ultralite database or schema by using the Upgrade Database Wizard or by upgrading the legacy database utility.

· If you want to do this step-by-step and get help on options and properties, select the Wizard tool.

· If you have the following requirements, please select the utility:

o only need to upgrade the named table to the new database

o need to perform batch process

Upgrading an existing Ultralite database to version 10 in Sybase

1, please read the important items in the upgrade carefully

2, start Sybase-------by selecting ' Start ' > ' program ' > ' SQL Anywhere ' > ' Sybase '

3, upgrade the database by selecting Tools > UltraLite > Upgrade database.

The Upgrade Database Wizard appears. Before continuing, make sure that you have determined:

Source. You can select one of the database or schema files as the source.

Upgrade the output of the database. You can choose:

I. New Ultralite database. Select this option to create a database and connect.

Ii. There are already ultralite databases. Select this option to change some database properties or sort by using the SQL anywhere reference database. Make sure that the character set and sorting method you select are appropriate for the existing Ultralite database and its internal schema.

4, choose the right option to upgrade the source:

Legacy databases. Browse to select the Ultralite database (*.UDB or *.pdb).

Legacy schema files. Browse to select the Ultralite schema file (*.USM).

5. Connect the file you selected and click Next.

6. Select destination output:

The new database. You must create a new database file and then set the properties that you want. Follow the instructions in the wizard to complete the procedure.

Use a database that is already connected. You can select a connected database from the list provided.

Use an existing database that is not yet connected. Click on the database to open the connection dialog and connect to the existing Ultralite database.

7. Follow the instructions of the wizard to select the relevant output address.

8, click the end to upgrade the database.

9. If the Ultralite database before the upgrade has users, remember to add them if you do not find them in the newly created database.
