The development of Ubuntu LTS 16.04 enters the function freezing stage.
The development of Ubuntu LTS 16.04 has recently reached a very important stage-the function freezing stage. The Ubuntu development cycle is usually 6 months, and this version is no exception: there is no delay or major crisis in the development process. In fact, the feature freeze phase does not only appear in the Ubuntu development cycle. It is a milestone that many other projects will reach. GNOME is one of them. This milestone has nothing to do with dramatic changes. It just means that developers will not add new features and focus more on bug fixes. Even so, exceptions may also occur. Therefore, at least wait until the next milestone called "last feature special freeze", and all functions will be finalized.
Canonical said that if developers still have features to be added, they can continue uploading today and they will continue testing. The development of Ubuntu LTS 16.04 will not work out a stable version, it is better than a version full of bugs. At present, the development of Ubuntu LTS 16.04 has begun to focus on error fixing and performance polishing. Ubuntu LTS 16.04 is scheduled to be officially released on July 15, April 21 this year.
Canonical said that Ubuntu LTS 16.04 has received a large number of new features that cover most of them. Canonical intends to replace "Ubuntu Software Center" with "GNOME software ", and added support for ZFS. Therefore, before the official release, Canonical still has a lot to do.
