Now, a wide variety of glass-like materials, almost every Photoshop teaching site will see such as "PS Make Glass button" and so on. Today, we also come to catch the popular, make some beautiful glass ball.

1.Create a new document in Photoshop, size 256x256 pixel, RGB mode, white background. Sets the foreground color to RGB (255,211,38), the background color is RGB (57,0,0), creates a new layer 1, holds down the SHIFT key, and selects a circle with the elliptical marquee tool. Select the radial gradient tool to set the gradient to the foreground color to the background color. Make a gradient up from the lower part of the selection, as shown in Figure 01, to deselect.

Figure 01
Although we chose the anti-aliasing option when selecting the marquee, we found that there are still some jagged edges on the edge of the sphere when we make the gradient. To eliminate these sawtooth, we can load the selection of Layer 1, reverse the selection, feather the selection by 1 pixels, delete it two times, and deselect it. In this way, you will find that the edge of the sphere is smoother than just now.

   2.Below, we use the layer overlay method to show the inside of the glass ball. Copy Layer 1 and name the copy hardlight. From the name you can guess, this layer of layer blending mode for strong light, in the Edit menu to select the transformation, the layer vertically flip;

Copy layer 1 Again, move the replica layer to the top, name lighten, set the layer blending mode to light, and opacity to 50%;

Copy the lighten layer, name the copy layer as a color Burn, and set the blending mode to colour dodge so that our image is as shown in Figure 21.

Figure 02
3.Now we're going to subtract some of the extra red parts. Load the selection of layer 1, select it, feather 12 pixels, move the selection up 2 pixels, and remove the 3~4 in the lighten layer and the color burn layer, until the bottom of the sphere is completely black. This is very much related to the gradient in the previous step, the gradient position is different, the resulting image will be a big difference. Maybe your gradient is ideal in the last step, so you don't have to work on this one step. (Figure 03)

Figure 03

4.Next, we add the bottom reflective effect to the sphere. Create a new layer 2 on the Color burn layer, select a soft brush with a diameter of 65 pixels, set the foreground color to white, and click in the lower part of the sphere, as shown in Figure 04, to reduce the opacity of the layer to 65%. This layer can be seen as the effect of light from the sphere.

Figure 04
We continue to strengthen this effect. Load the selection of layer 1, make sure the current tool is the Marquee tool, hold down the SHIFT key, click the arrow keys on the keyboard, move the selection up by 30 pixels, and then press CTRL+J to copy the Layer 2 image to layer 3. Then select the Move tool, move the layer 3 down 10 pixels, reduce the opacity of layer 3 to 55%, and blur the blur filter in the Blur filter group. (Figure 05)

Figure 05
5.Let's add a reflection to the top of the sphere. Create a new layer 4 at the top, load the selection of layer 1, reset the color swatch, and then deselect the selection by filling the selection with a linear gradient from white to black. With the transform tool, the layer 4 is deformed, as in Figure 06, the blending mode of the layer is set to the screen (that is, the color filter mode in Photoshop7.0), slightly blurred with the blur filter. (Figure 07)

Figure 06

Figure 07

6.Now let's make a reflection on the top of the sphere. Under Layer 4, create a new layer 5, load the selection of layer 1, soften the selection with a feather command with a radius of 1 pixels, select the Brush tool, use the brush just now, and click in white in the middle and upper part of the sphere, noting that the edge of the brush is over the edges Deselect to set the layer blending mode to soft light.

Create a new layer 6 on Layer 5 and select a smaller brush, such as 35 pixels in diameter, and click where you just clicked. This will enhance the reflective effect. (Figure 08)

Figure 08
7.Do you think such a sphere is too monotonous? We can add a rich texture effect to the inner sphere through the texture layer. Select the color burn layer, create a new layer 7 on it, and name it texture. You can have a variety of options to add textures, and here is a description.

Select the cloud filter in the render filter to render the layer with the foreground/background color. If necessary, you can use a layered cloud to render several more times. Then use the automatic color order, adjust the screen contrast. Next, turn on the Twisted > Glass filter, the distortion degree is set to 9, smoothness is 3, texture type is small lens, zoom to 200%, load Layer 1 selection, use spherical filter continuously two times, the image in the selection is spherical, reversed, remove redundant image and deselect. Set the blending mode of the layer to overlay.

There are many times, the effect of cloud filters is not very satisfactory, you can freely on this layer and then use other rendering methods or filters to make textures, the two textures are set to overlay mode, respectively, reduce the opacity will achieve good results. As our example, in addition to the glass filter rendering, I also added a layer of layered clouds, superimposed on the effect is more ideal. Sometimes, the image to do reverse processing, there will be unexpected gains. (Figure 09)

Figure 09
8.To add a simple shadow, copy layer 1, move the layer 1 copy below Layer 1, and fill the opaque area with black. Apply a Gaussian blur filter with a radius of 2.0 pixels, slightly blurred. Copy this layer and merge down to form the simplest shadow effect. (Figure 10)

Figure 10

Here, our glass ball is only a semi-finished product. If you want to make it more beautiful, there are a few steps to be missed here.

9.Reflective effect: Perhaps you will decide strange, before we have done two times reflective effect, why do it? This is to further increase the inner details of the sphere. This time we use a more special method, open a picture, preferably a picture of higher brightness, the size of its image to 200x200 pixel size. Press CTRL + A to select the image, paste it into our earlier document, place it on the texture layer, and the image will be automatically aligned to the center of the document.

Here, the higher the brightness of the picture you choose, the better the effect will be. So, there are a lot of windows in the bedroom picture is a good choice, because these pictures will have good light.

Select the layer that we just pasted in, do the color processing, and keep only the image's shading. Then do the spherical surface treatment, simply remove the corners. The layer is free-form, reduced to a little smaller than the sphere, as shown in Figure 11, and then loaded into the texture layer of the selection, feather 3 pixels, after the election, delete the 3~5, deselect, and the layer blending mode to lighten, opacity reduced to 15%. Finally, sharpen with the USM Filter, set the number to 150%, the radius is 0.5 pixels, the threshold is 0, so that the blurred image is clear. (Figure 12)

Figure 11

Figure 12
Ten.Now, let's make a stereo shadow effect. Select the shadow layer we just made, the Layer 1 copy layer, copy it, and apply a Gaussian blur with a radius of 4 pixels to the replica 2 layer. Then, with the zoom in the Transform tool, hold down the ALT key to shrink the deformation box to the middle and move the entire warp box down. Determines the distortion, reducing the opacity of the layer to 65%. So we get the real shadow. (Figure 13)

Figure 13

One by one .The following step is the key to the transmission of the ball. Create a new layer on the shadow layer that you just made, make sure the foreground color is white with a soft brush with a diameter 35~50 pixel, click below the sphere. The center of the brush is probably at the edge of the 3D shadow. (Figure 14)

Figure 14
A .Finally, let's start by making a simple background for the glass ball. Select the background layer, set the foreground color to RGB (255,211,38), the background color to RGB (57,0,0), select the Radial gradient tool, change the gradient method to the background color, and drag the mouse from the center of the canvas as far as possible to make the gradient. (Figure 15)

Figure 15
Open the noise filter, add noise to the canvas, set the number of noise to 3, Gaussian, monochrome; then select the Paint smudge filter from the art Effects filter group, set the brush size to 10, sharpen 20, brush type simple, and then sharpen with the USM Filter, set the number to 100%, The radius is 0.5 and the threshold is 0, so we get a simple background image. (Figure 16)

Figure 16
You might think that the light on the bottom of the sphere we just made was a little superfluous, so try to set the layer blending mode to overlay and the opacity down to 75%, so you don't think it's superfluous. (Figure 17)

Figure 17

A .Here, our sphere can be considered basically finished. But we can also process it to make it more perfect. If you think the black around the sphere is too heavy to block the transmission, then we'll deal with it. Select the background layer, load the selection of Layer 1, extend the selection out of 10 pixels with the extended command, and press Ctrl+j to copy the selection image to the new layer.

Move this layer above the texture layer, load the selection of layer 1, shrink 4 pixels inward, clear the image in the selection, and deselect. Reduce the layer to the original size of the 80~90%. (Figure 18)

Figure 18
Load the layer 1 copy of the selection, feather 2 pixels, deselect, delete, cancel the selection. At this point, our image looks more like a glass button. (Figure 19)

Figure 19
Finally, the blending mode of this layer is set to strong light, and the opacity is reduced to 25%. This sphere is really finished. (Figure Glass)

Figure Glass

.Now, try closing some of the layers to see what happens to the image. In this tutorial, we use a number of layer blending modes that make the image incredibly different. If you close some, or change some of the blending mode, then you are not just a picture of the creation. For example, in the following diagram, I have closed different layers, and the effect is obvious. If you use the adjustment layer again, it will change more. (Figure 20)

Figure 20
Use a different texture instead of the existing texture layer, which will make your image colorful. You can also use it as a glass button. Close the background layer, press CTRL + A, and then select the merge Copy command from the Edit menu. In this way, all visible layers are copied to the Clipboard. Select a new document, paste it, resize it.
