The first application of ultra-low loss optical fiber in China
Recently, China Telecom Jiangsu Corporation and Corning optical communication have successfully completed the laying and testing of ultra-low-loss optical fiber cables in Jiangsu Telecom's Provincial Trunk Lines. The test results show that the super-low-loss optical fiber has excellent compatibility with the conventional G.652 optical fiber. The construction technology of cables, laying and welding is the same as that of the conventional G.652 optical fiber, compared with conventional optical fiber and low-loss optical fiber, the optical fiber loss is greatly reduced by 0.02dB/km or higher.
With the gradual aging of existing trunk cable, they will gradually enter a new period ~ In the next 10 years, the operator will perform a massive update on the inter-provincial trunk cable. The selection of trunk optical fiber cables will have a profound impact on the construction and operation of high-speed transmission systems in the next decades. Therefore, it is particularly important. For a G or even 1 t wavelength division optical transmission system in the next few years, more complex modulation methods (16QAM) are required to improve spectral efficiency and reduce unit bit costs, however, there is a higher requirement on the system OSNR (optical signal-to-noise ratio). In addition, if there is a long span in the link, the OSNR will deteriorate sharply. In addition to adding devices to the device side, the new type of ultra-low loss optical fiber also provides a solution. The attenuation of this optical fiber is as low as 0.165dB/km, which can effectively increase the cross-segment length, improve the OSNR of the system, and increase the transmission distance, which greatly improves the overall transmission performance of the system.
The test results show that the link attenuation value of the ultra-low loss optical fiber after splicing construction is 0.17dB/km ~ 0.18dB/km, which is much lower than the average 0.21dB/km ~ The link attenuation of 0.22dB/km is also lower than that of the low-loss optical fiber 0.19dB/km ~ The link attenuation of 0.20dB/km. At the same time, the average Fusion Loss between ultra-low loss optical fibers is 0.02dB ~ The connection process between 0.03dB and G.652 is the same as that of conventional optical fiber. No special connection process is required. The good compatibility ensures the consistency of the construction process and the final excellent performance.
It is understood that the Xuzhou-Suining optical fiber cable project is China Telecom's first comprehensive system test of ultra-low-loss optical fiber cables, which not only solves the operator's worries about ultra-low-loss construction problems, it also found and solved the problem of how to correctly test the Fusion Loss of ultra-low loss optical fiber and common optical fiber, laying a solid foundation for the future large-scale deployment of ultra-low loss optical fiber in the carrier network.
