The ATI mobile graphics driver-general Linux technology-Linux technology and application information is successfully installed under Fedora8. The following is a detailed description. Author: ss1271

First, Windows XP SP2 on the computer crashed. Due to busy with the final exam, I didn't have to worry about re-building the system. On the one hand, the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Destop and fedora 9 of the eye ++ team were redone. While my ubuntu 8.04 was still on the way from the Netherlands to China, my fedora 9 was broken, there seems to be a problem with your fedora9. It cannot be guided, and the u disk boot failed. As a result, we re-partition and re-build the system.

There is only a Fedora 7 disk on hand. If you don't need to renew it, you can use yum to fedora 8. It's a big deal to use fedora8 and then use yum to 9. The installation of fedora7 was successful. I spent a day, about 10 hours, installing or updating more than 1000 packages, and finally Yum arrived at fedora8. Don't rush to 9, first solve the problem of the graphics card driver that linux has not solved for many years on my laptop.

The specific steps are as follows. First, check that your fedora kernel version is up to date. I am using fedora 8. There should be no updated fedora 8 kernel.

# Rpm-Uhv http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-8.rpm
# Rpm -- import http://rpm.livna.org/RPM-LIVNA-GPG-KEY
# Yum install xorg-x11-drv-fglrx kmod-fglrx glx-utils

During this period, it may take a long time or a short time, for example, if my length and width are less than 10 minutes. This depends on your network speed. All processes are completed automatically. What you can do is wait.

# Glxinfo | grep direct

Check whether the installation is successful. If yes is displayed, the operation is successful.

If the amd64-bit cpu is used, the kernel is automatically upgraded during the driver installation process.

Modify/etc/grub. conf and add iommu = off to the old kernel.

Kernel/vmlinuz-2.6 ...... Ro root = LABEL =/rhgb quiet iommu = off

Restart. Change the resolution. Enable 3D.

If NO is displayed)

Try the following: first go to Discovery Mobility Radeon x1400 series, download to local is such a thing: ati-driver-installer-8-6-x86.x86_64.run, then su to root permissions, enter: # sh ati-driver-installer-8-6-x86.x86_64.run, this will pop up the graphic interface, next, let's take the next step. For example, at the beginning, click "continue", then a protocol is displayed, select "accept", and then ask whether you are "automatic" or "custom". The default value is "automatic", and you can directly continue. after installation, select exit.

Then, log out or restart, run the terminal again, su to the root permission, and enter # aticonfig -- initial (note that there are two crossbars before initial). The following prompt appears:

[Root @ localhost ~] # Aticonfig -- initial
Found fglrx primary device section
Using/etc/X11/xorg. conf
Saved back-up to/etc/X11/xorg. conf. fglrx-1

Log out. Your atigraphics card driver has been installed! However, you will see the video card information in the system/management/display hardware information: Unknown video card, but it does not matter, as long as you click "configuration, you only need the information "fglrx-Vendor-supplied driver for fglrx cards.

At present, I installed it. It is estimated that it was a great driver problem. As a result, I started the 3D white screen, but the resolution was normal. It doesn't matter if you don't need 3D, because it is not often used by me.
