Xinhuanet, Beijing, September May 17 (Xinhua) The whole society took action to provide support to disadvantaged areas and groups and eliminate the "digital divide" as soon as possible ", it is the original intention of the International Telecommunication Union to set this year's World Telecommunication Day as "taking action and creating a fair information society.
On the occasion of the 37th World Telecommunication Day on the 17th, Zhao Houlin, director of the Telecommunications Standardization Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union, said in a telephone connection with reporters in Geneva that in the use of information technology and connection to information networks, in recent years, the whole world has developed rapidly. However, the unbalanced development of global informatization has aroused widespread attention. This imbalance exists between countries, between regions of the same country, between urban and rural areas, between different educational levels, or even between men and women. These differences and imbalance will seriously restrict the establishment of a global information society.
ITU sets 2015 as the year for achieving the goal of eliminating the digital divide. Specific goals: Information technology will be used to connect all villages and establish information connection stations in every community. Information technology will be used to connect universities, middle schools, and primary schools, connect primary and secondary school courses; connect scientific research centers with information technology; connect libraries, cultural centers, museums, post offices, and archives with information technology; information technology is used to connect the fitness center and hospital; information technology is used to connect the central government and local government agencies to establish websites and provide email addresses; ensure that all people can enjoy television and broadcasting; encourage the use of various languages to provide online information; and strive to enable more than half of the world's residents to use information technology.
