You may encounter such a strange phenomenon in the days of "getting in touch with ADSL", that is, after installing ADSL on Windows XP, every time you start the ADSL virtual dial-up software for dial-up Internet access, the Windows XP system will always "consciously" Enter the suspended state. After about one minute, the virtual dial-up window will pop up automatically. In this case, how does this false-dead state occur in Windows XP? How can we take appropriate measures to eliminate such a false-dead state, thus improving the efficiency of virtual dialing? The content below in this article will reveal to you the mystery of system false positives caused by the secret ADSL. It will also offer you a few tricks to help you quickly eliminate system false positives.

  Unveiling the mystery of a false System

In the default installation status, the Windows XP operating system automatically sets the TCP/IP Parameter of the NIC to the automatically obtained status. Once the Windows XP system is successfully started, it will automatically check the configuration parameters of the network card to see if the IP address of the network card is static. If the static IP address of the network card cannot be found, Windows XP will automatically send broadcast information to the outside, request the DHCP server in the LAN to assign a dynamic IP address to the current workstation. If it cannot be connected to the DHCP server in the LAN, the Windows XP system will use the dedicated IP address automatic addressing function, to assign a special IP address to the current workstation. The IP address is generally located in "169.254.0.1 ~ 169.254.255.254 "network segment.

During the virtual dialing operation, the DHCP function is automatically stopped by the ADSL Modem by default, in this way, the ADSL modem cannot allocate a dynamic IP address to the NIC of the current workstation in time. In addition, when the Windows XP system crashes, you may want to take a closer look at the data signal lights on the control panel of the ADSL Modem. When the data signal lights stop flashing, the system will automatically eliminate the false alarms. At this time, click "start"/"run" command, enter the "ipconfig/all" string command in the open system run box, and then click "OK, in the subsequent result window, you will see that the IP address of the current workstation is "169.254.0.1 ~ An address in the 169.254.255.254 CIDR block. From the above analysis, we can easily see that the reason why Windows XP system is suspended when dialing ADSL is mainly because the NIC of the current workstation cannot obtain the IP address in time, therefore, if we specify an IP address for the NIC in advance, the Windows XP system will not be suspended during virtual dialing.

Countermeasures for system false positives

As we have mentioned above, to eliminate the false death of Windows XP, you must assign a suitable IP address to the NIC of the current workstation in a timely manner. To do this, you can use the following method:

1. Enable the built-in DHCP Function

Although many models of ADSL modem have integrated the DHCP function into the device, the DHCP function of many devices is not enabled by default. In fact, as long as the built-in DHCP server function is enabled, the NIC connected to the ADSL modem device can obtain a dynamic IP address in time. To enable the built-in DHCP function, follow these steps:

First, open the parameter settings page of the ADSL modem. Considering that the default IP address of many ADSL modem devices is 192.168.1.1, open the IE browser and enter the "http: // 192.168.1.1" string address in the IE Address box, after you click the Enter key, the logon page "enter network password" is displayed, as shown in 1 );

Figure 1

If you enter the preceding address in the IE Address box and the logon window shown in Figure 1 cannot be displayed, you can open the operation manual randomly given by the ADSL modem, check whether the default IP address of the device is "192.168.1.1". If not, enter the correct IP address in the IE Address box, in this way, the logon interface shown in 1 is displayed;

Then, enter the account name and access password used to log on to the ADSL device, and click "OK" to enter the parameter settings window of the ADSL device; click the "Lan" tab in the settings window, and then click the drop-down button in "DHCP mode" on the tag settings page shown in 2, select the "DHCP server" option from the drop-down menu that appears later, and click the "Submit" button to enable the built-in DHCP function of the ADSL device. Of course, to make this function take effect, you also need to go to the "manage" tab page in the parameter settings window of the ADSL device, select the "save" option to save the previously set parameters and restart the ADSL device.

Figure 2

Once the preceding settings are completed, once the Windows XP system sends a request to allocate an IP address packet, the built-in DHCP server of ADSL modem can quickly allocate a suitable IP address to the NIC of the current workstation, so that Windows XP will not be suspended during virtual dialing.

Comment: This method is only suitable for administrators of ADSL devices. If you are not familiar with the operation and maintenance of ADSL devices, do not enter the parameter configuration interface of the ADSL device to avoid incorrect parameters, as a result, the ADSL device will not be able to access the Internet normally and efficiently in the future.

2. Enable Connection Sharing

As you know, Windows XP has a built-in Internet Connection Sharing function. Once this function is enabled, Windows XP will become a small DHCP server, in this way, the Windows XP system can automatically specify the nic ip address of the current workstation as "192.168.0.1", so that you can quickly obtain a fixed IP address when performing virtual dial-up, in this way, the Windows XP system will not be suspended. To enable Internet Connection Sharing for Windows XP, follow these steps:

Click "start", "Control Panel", "network and Internet connections", and then click the "Network Connection" command. In the displayed network connection List window, right-click the connection icon that is directly connected to the Internet and run the "properties" command from the shortcut menu;

In the network attribute settings window that will be opened later, click the "advanced" label, and then on the corresponding tab page, select the "allow other network users to connect through the Internet connection of this computer" option under "Internet Connection Sharing", and then click "OK, in this way, the built-in DHCP server function of Windows XP takes effect.

Comment: although this method can assign a dynamic IP address to the NIC of the current workstation, Internet Connection Sharing can be easily activated for only one computer, it also brings security threats to the system.

3. Directly allocate static addresses

If we assign a static IP address to the NIC of the current workstation in advance, Windows XP automatically finds the static IP address of the NIC during virtual dialing, then, the system will not send packets with IP addresses allocated to external requests, so that Windows XP will not be prone to system crashes. To assign a static IP address to the NIC of the workstation, you only need to follow the steps below:

Click "start", "Control Panel", "network and Internet connections", and then click the "Network Connection" command. In the displayed network connection List window, right-click the local connection icon directly connected to the ADSL device and execute the "properties" command from the shortcut menu;

In the network attribute settings window that appears, click the "General" tab and select the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" option on the corresponding tab page, click "properties" to go To the attribute setting window shown in 3;

Figure 3

Select the "use the following IP Address" option in the window, enter "192.168.0.1" in the IP address box, and enter "255.255.255.0" in the "subnet mask" text box ", at the same time, set the DNS and gateway parameters to the default value, and click "OK" to enable the NIC to have an independent static IP address.

Comments: This method is the simplest and most direct, and is suitable for many cainiao friends!
