It has been more than a year since I began to create a logo for the theme of biology. and biology as the theme of the Web site design has finally come to a start, today I will use my logo design to share with you the design process. The theme of biological logo and other logo is very different, but also very interesting.

John O ' Nolan and Gilbert Pellegrom are pioneers in the design of biological themes. In early 2010, John asked me if I was interested in their bio-themed projects. It was because of John that I had the opportunity to enter the design field.

John is passionate about living things, and he believes that biology links nature to the environment. He enumerated the logo of Coda and the design style of Alerto Seveso, and their design as the goal of logo design. "From this point of view, I do not seem to fit his request, because I mainly design a simple, flat logo, sometimes a half realistic." 】

I designed this bio-themed logo, which is characterized by the use of leaves to fill the entire font, the background is the texture of bark and interlaced vines.

Unlike any other logo I've designed, this creature-themed logo needs to be created in a very large size. The entire design is based on a leaf texture file.

Select the transformation option to transform the blade shape.

Move Four Corners at the same time, and the lines extend outward into the shape of the leaves.

Modify hue/Saturation to change the green hue to get the bright colors of the leaves.

Enter text in PS and add a temporary green gradient as the layer style.

Then, paste the blades onto the font, and zoom and rotate to fit the position. When the number of blades increases, the depth of the blade can be increased by shading effect.

Press the ALT key and drag the leaves to make different shapes of leaves. The final random rotation and arrangement.

After putting a lot of big blades in place, create a copy again and shrink it and flatten it into different shapes. The new blade is then used to fill the void.

The last series of blades are some of the smaller blades that gather together to fill all the inconspicuous voids.

Use a simple PS brush and Wacom tablet to draw some vines between the blades and extend beyond the outline of the word.

Apply a gradient overlay to the white line to make the lines look more like vines.

Next, use the color overlay to give the vine a subtle tonal adjustment to prevent the gradient from having too much effect on the other parts.

Add bevel and emboss effects, bright green highlights and dark green shades make the vine more stereoscopic.

Finally, add a little shade to the vine and it looks like it's written or on a leaf.

Draw some black-and-white spots with a large soft edge brush, and add different colors and shades to differentiate each leaf. This layer blending mode is set to soft light 70%.

So far, the first letter has been completed. Use the same method to deal with the back two letters.

Combine the hundreds of layers of each letter into one layer group to keep the PSD file clean and tidy.

The vine layer staggered above and below the leaf layer. As a result, the vines are interwoven above and below the leaves.

Add a little bit of detail to the background, give the shape of the letter the texture of the bark and replace the original green gradient as a layer mask.

The final modification of the logo is to add some water droplets. Make water droplets by using a rounded brush and setting the scatter value to the maximum value.

First, set the layer to multiply to render the white transparent color, and then add the bevel and emboss effect, so that there is the shape of the water droplets.

The inner glow helps the white light outline the water droplets, and the key point is to reduce the opacity to produce a subtle change.

Finally, use a soft shadow to make the water droplets have three-dimensional sense.

I added a butterfly to foil the theme of biology.

People who have designed logos know that the core principle of logo design is that the logo can be used in monochrome mode. The full details of the image above, which is based on human processing, may not be enough to satisfy the repeatability. However, we can make some adjustments to the file format to reconstruct the logo, so that it has a variety of applications.

One way to do this is to make a complete logo in PS and then turn it into a working path. Paste this path into illustrator to create a vector version.

This is the ultimate bio-material logo.
