The mysterious Google Base service was finally available on November 2 of this week. The Google Base service allows people to publish all kinds of information they want to publish for free and provides a tag for each piece of information, so that others can easily find it.
According to the company, the new beta service allows users to post "all types of online and offline information and images" and be searched in Google Base, depending on the data retrieval capability, this information can also be searched by Google search, Froogle, or Google Local Search engines.
In this new service, the FAQ description section describes: "If you need to share information with others but do not know where to start, Google Base is a service tailored for you."
A spokesman for the company said that Google has no plans to immediately launch ads on Google Base. For people who want to post information, there is an example of a demonstration on the website, including gathering and activity planning services, recipes, a list of second-hand cars, and even a chromosome group containing the 1918 influenza virus.
Just as the head of CollegeBoard.com, Hal Higginbotham wrote in his Google network log: "When a student searches for all the materials from a school or university, they need to obtain as much information as possible. Google Base can satisfy the aspirations of students and parents, but they can use this service to get more information they need when making an important decision on which university to attend ."
Some analysts have speculated that Google's move is aimed at the online classification market, especially for eBay and Craigslist classification services, but Google's executives have denied the company's attempt.
According to Marc Leibowitz, head of a web search and enterprise joint organization, Google's aim is to provide another way for people to share information, instead of searching for webpages through a crawling worm as before, and then providing the results to you. A spokesman for Google also said that it hoped that a large amount of information in Google Base would be non-commercial.
Last month, Google Base's screen snapshot was leaked online, and the Google search giant confirmed they were indeed testing a new service.
