In the fall of 1987, Thomes Knoll, a graduate student studying for a doctorate, has been trying to write a program that allows grayscale images to be displayed on a monochrome bitmap monitor. When John was experimenting with computers to create special effects, he asked Thomas to help him write a program to process digital images, which was a great starting point for display, and their cooperation began. Then, with John's press, Thomas developed an image-processing routine (a later filter plug-in) and added the ability to read and write various file formats. Thomas tried several times to change the name of the software, but it did not succeed every time. He even wrote a simple manual to introduce the program. Finally, a scanner company adopted the software. About 200 copies of the 0.87 version of Photoshop were bundled with the scanner. The first release of Photoshop was bundled with the Banreyscan XP scanner. Later, John returned to Adobe for another presentation. Russell Brown,adobe, the artistic director, was completely impressed by the program. Adobe bought the right to release Photoshop with great enthusiasm and determination. In November 1988, The Knoll Brothers and Fred Mitchell,adobe, the head of the oral agreement contract, and the following April to complete a real legal contract. The key word on the contract was "license to distribute (authorized sales)" and Adobe did not outright buy out of the program until a few years later Photoshop was a great success.
