The history of MySQL

The intention of MySQL's original developers was to connect the tables with mSQL and their own quick low-level routines (ISAM). In any case, after some testing, the developer concludes that mSQL is not as fast and flexible as they need to be. This led to the creation of a new SQL interface for their database using almost the same API interface as mSQL, so that the API was designed to allow easier porting to MySQL for Third-party code written for mSQL.

It is not clear how the name of MySQL came about. The basic guide and a large number of libraries and tools have been prefixed with "my" for more than 10 years, and anyway, the daughter of Monty Widenius, one of the founders of MySQL AB, is also called My. Which of these two is exactly the name of the MySQL is still a secret, including developers.

The name of the MySQL Dolphin logo is "Sakila", which was chosen by the founder of MySQL AB from a list of names suggested by the user in the "Dolphin named" contest. The winning name was provided by Ambrose Twebaze, an open-source software developer from Swaziland, Africa. According to Ambrose, Sakila from a Swaziland dialect called SiSwati, and also the name of a town in Arusha, Tanzania, near Ambrose's hometown of Uganda.
