Inside the data Hall

LD6 initially had 236000 server cabinets in a 1385-square-foot data Hall, and 1385 more cabinets were placed after the venue was fully occupied.

The hall will be hosted on servers, and each customer will usually deploy their own machines. Servers that require high security environments will be placed in dedicated cages.

Equinix did not specifically disclose which customers registered to use the data center, but expressed interest in financial services, network services, and cloud service providers.

In order to maximize the use of the computing infrastructure available for use, the building adopts a dedicated design that only requires a support column in the middle of the building.

The hall can support up to 1.5 KW machines per square meter, and each cabinet has a cooling requirement of 12 kVA.

Tailor-made

The data center is monitored around the clock and has control measures and mantraps for biometric feature recognition technology to prevent unauthorized access. A trap is a small house. The door that enters is on a wall, and the door that goes out is on the opposite wall. A trap door can be unlocked or opened only when the opposite door is closed or locked.

The building management system inspects infrastructure every 15 seconds, obtains temperature and humidity readings, and reports the results to the on-site monitoring center.

The building is specially designed to provide the optimal width for the air duct of the fresh air cooling system.

"In fact, we start with cooling technology and then design the building around cooling technology," said Russell Poole, managing UK at Equinix ."

It took about two and a half years to fill up the host hosting site provided by LD6 in another Equinix data center.
