Mozilla released Firefox 48, the "Most Important update to date", and began to officially support the multi-process architecture E10S (Electrolysis), separating the browser's UI process and Web content process. E10S is not enabled for all users. Mozilla said that at the beginning, it only enabled E10S for 1% qualified users with good testing performance. It will observe its stability and data interaction to ensure that there will be no major problems, then it will gradually enable more qualified users and eventually reach 100% of qualified users-about half of all 48 Firefox users.

According to the road map published by the Mozilla official blog: if everything goes well, Firefox 49 will start testing the separation extension process, and Firefox 50 will expand the extended testing scope. Other features of Firefox 48 include: mandatory extension signature, which means the browser will not load the extension without signature. The media parser is integrated with the first component developed by Rust. The WebExtensions supports stability; OS X stops supporting 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8, bug fixes, and so on.
