Canonical is preparing a revision for Ubuntu 14.04, and the new version icons being designed will surpass all previous ones.
In the last UDS (submitted by Ubuntu developers), James Matthew, a designer who has been enthusiastic about designing the appearance of Ubuntu, presented a set of beautiful icons, there is no better word to describe. Now he is showing us more details about his ongoing work.
"The main goal of this project is to create a modern, high-resolution icon theme for the desktop environment and touch screen devices. It can adapt to a variety of screen pixel density and enhance the user experience of Ubuntu. We want our icons to express our values and to express Ubuntu personalization in a unique way ."
James Matthew mentioned in an article on the Ubuntu official site: "We have designed a mobile icon for the application and the logo (symbol). However, because they do not have a clear guiding direction in the evolution of time, they do not form a consistent style. On the desktop, although the style is concise and consistent, the icon looks outdated and needs to be updated. "
Canonical's current goal is to update outdated icons for all platforms, including mobile phones and tablets, so that they can reach the latest standards without losing their original identifiers. Users only need to take a look at the icon and can identify it as a Ubuntu system without thinking.
The old icons that are still in use so far do not look so bad, but the new icons that have been shown are beautiful.
Matthew also mentioned in his article: "We have been working for this ongoing project over the past year. We have concentrated on the broad research on how to classify icons best. We have also gone through several design iterations and explorations ."
These are not the final version of the icon, and the design may continue to be modified. Another possibility is that these new icons may not have time to be ready for the desktop version, but we only want them.
