Slax Operating System Overview

Slax is a livecd release version based on Slackware-current, which is upgraded quickly. It is small and can be placed on a small disc with a size of more than 170 MB. The latest version 4.1.2 includes the latest kde3.2 desktop system. kde has no multimedia features, including cd player, mplayer, and kplayer Based on mplayer. There is also a new version of koffice for office use. At the same time, slax also has fluxbox window manager for different users to choose to use.

In 4.1.2, the author added the copy2hd startup option based on the original copy2ram. When starting with cd, you can use this parameter to copy the content of the disc to the hard disk for running, then you won't read the CD. You can also copy the file to the hard disk first, and use the fromhd option to start the slax that has been copied to the hard disk when starting the disk, which is very flexible. If the memory size is large enough, copy2ram256 or above can be used directly) to run faster in the memory. Of course, it can also be installed on the hard disk. However, because it is small, it is more suitable to run on the CD.

Basic installation of Slax Operating System

1. Start

Boot: Press F1 to view many startup parameters.

2. Avoid suspension during hardware detection during startup

3. Configure the network

Slax uses DHCP to configure the network. If the network supports DHCP, slax automatically configures network parameters.

If swap partition already exists in the system, slax will automatically detect and enable it. If you do not want to use swap to increase the running speed, run the fileswap command. The system will create a file named slax. swp on the FAT partition. Of course, you need to specify the file location.

There are two ways to install it on the hard disk: one is to install it on the hard disk like other linux versions, and the ext partition is required, but the process is very simple. After starting with cd

If you want to start it with lilo in slax, run the chroot command to the slax partition: lilo-m/boot/map, run lilo-m/mnt/partition/boot/map without chroot.

If the location is different, modify the file. The new 4.1.2 file is config.

If there is no dos, you can still start it with a CD. Run the following command: slax livecd_subdir = slax folder path. When the new 4.1.2 is started, slax fromhd = will be OK.

7 slax can also be installed on a USB flash drive

Make sure that the USB flash drive is portable. Enable slax, attach the USB flash drive, change it to the directory where the cdrom is located, and run it. /create_bootdisk.sh/dev/sda1/dev/sda SLAX. slax creates a folder on the USB flash drive and copies all the required items to the folder.

However, considering the volume and the size of the USB flash disk, it is not recommended to install it on the USB flash disk. You can install it on the hard disk in the same way.
