(3) Dissolved Oxygen

In the circulating cooling water system, a large number of equipment are metal-made heat exchangers. Due to the full contact between water and air in the open system, the dissolved O2 in water can reach saturation, when carbon steel is in contact with cooling water dissolved with oxygen, many corrosive micro-batteries are formed on the carbon steel surface due to the non-uniformity of the metal surface and the conductivity of cooling water, the following oxidation and reduction reactions occur in the anode and cathode areas of the micro-battery respectively. These reactions have led to the constant dissolution and corrosion of metals in the anode zone of the micro-battery.

(4) Microorganisms

Due to the supply of nutrients and ions necessary for microbial growth by water and organic and inorganic substances from the surrounding air, material leakage in the production process also provides nutrients for microbial populations in the circulating water system, the large surface area provided by pipelines, heat exchangers, cooling tower fillers and water distribution pipeline systems effectively promotes the growth of microbial populations. In circulating water, microbial growth has brought great harm to the circulating water system. A large amount of microbial mucus makes the floating impurities and chemical sediment in the water stick to the heat transfer surface of the heat exchanger, that is, biological mud or soft dirt. In addition to corrosion, the sticking mud can also reduce the flow of cooling water and reduce the cooling efficiency of the heat exchanger. In severe cases, the pipeline will be blocked, forcing production to stop cleaning.

(5) Scale

Generally, heavy carbonate is dissolved in natural water, and the formation of scale should be prevented. In the circulating cooling water system, the concentration of carbonate increases with evaporation and concentration. When the concentration reaches saturation, or when the heat transfer surface of the heat exchanger causes the water temperature to rise, a decomposition reaction occurs, calcium carbonate precipitation is generated. Calcium carbonate is deposited on the surface of the heat exchanger to form a dense calcium carbonate scale, which has poor thermal conductivity, thus reducing the heat transfer efficiency of the heat exchanger. In severe cases, the heat exchanger is blocked and the system resistance increases, the efficiency of water pumps and cooling towers is reduced, production energy consumption is increased, production is reduced, local corrosion is accelerated, and abnormal shutdown is even caused.
