We all know the three steps of spam:
1. The Spam sender obtains your email address.
2. Spam senders start to push all kinds of spam to your mailbox.
3. You are used to receiving spam every day.
As we all know, for spam senders, the easiest and quickest way to get an email address is to buy from websites that require users to register users through an email address. In general, when we register users on the website, we will not carefully read the registration terms, and the registration terms of the website will become a blank article.
Recently I have seen a unique method to eliminate the above exposed email addresses. Before introducing this method, I would like to review the method we are currently using to deal with spam.
Successful anti-spam methods
Spam filtering is a mainstream method for reducing/eliminating spam (depending on the degree of filtering Specification. The only problem with this method is that it is passive defense. Updating the blacklist or whitelist in a timely manner makes the fight against spam endless. Of course, there is also a heuristic spam filtering technology, but the stability of this technology is not good enough, and often the important emails you are waiting for are filtered out as spam.
Keeping email addresses public is a half-successful response, but in today's Internet world, this is almost impossible. After all, there is no difference between keeping an email address public and having no such email address.
So some people think of another method, that is, to register several free Web-based email accounts. When an email account starts to receive spam mails, it will be discarded, use it in a new mailbox.
Sacrificing email addresses seems feasible
The method we mentioned just now seems to be feasible. It just takes us some time to register an email address, but it can keep the mailbox clean for a while. At least I think so, but I have not considered a problem.
Let me talk about this problem as an example. One of my mailboxes began to receive spam from all directions, so I planned to abandon this mailbox. No problem. I registered a new mailbox. The next day I used my new mailbox to register a user on a forum. So far, everything has been fine. There is no spam in my mailbox.
But the problem is that I don't know when my new mailbox will start to receive spam. Of course, this will not take a long time. This makes me know that this method is not the correct way to deal with spam. Fortunately, not long ago I saw the Kurt Wismer article "how to avoid spam" on an anti-virus website ".
Wismer explained in the article the disadvantages of my ways of dealing with spam at the expense of email accounts:
"Many people are used to abandoning email addresses and often registering new mailboxes on hotmail or other free Web mail servers. However, this method will make you unable to know which website has leaked your email address. Therefore, when you change the new mailbox, you still cannot know which websites should be notified of the new mailbox.
This explains why I have been registering and abandoning my mailbox, but it is still found by the spam sender.
One-time email address
Wismer explained that a website already provides a convenient one-time email account service, so users can use different email addresses when registering different websites:
"This is a real one-time mailbox. You can provide different email addresses when registering on different websites. For example, you can provide different email addresses when registering ebay, amazon, or bank sites, so that you can check which website has leaked the email address in the future. The next step is to close the email address leaked to the spam sender, without re-registering an email account.
Some websites are currently providing this one-time email service. These types of website services are divided into two different types. The first type is familiar to everyone:
· The user registers a public email address.
· Use the email address to register on the website where an email address is required.
· Check the website page that provides the mail service or its RSS to obtain the mail information.
· If you receive a spam, delete the email.
As far as I know, there are currently two websites that provide this type of services, mailinator.com and dodgeit.com. However, I prefer this type. This is because the services described below can forward any emails received by one-time mail to my private mailbox. The steps for using this service are as follows (take the sneakemail.com website as an example ):
· If you need to enter an email address to register your account, do not enter your own email address. Instead, go to the Sneakemail.com website and create a new Sneakemail address.
· Next we will see a simple table. Here we will set a label for the new Sneakemail address so that we can view the purpose of creating this address in the future. Click the create button, the system will randomly generate a mailbox address, such as jlsjk02@sneakemail.com.
· Enter the jlsjk02@sneakemail.com into the website to be registered, not your real private email address.
· Next all emails sent to jlsjk02@sneakemail.com will be sent to the Sneakemail server and forwarded to your real mailbox. The Mail content will not change, but the mail sender column will be rewritten to: the sender's mail address you create the tag jlsjk02@sneakemail.com.
· In the sender column, you can identify the email you have received from the website you registered.
· If you continue to receive spam, and the sender indicates that the mailbox for receiving spam is the one you leave when registering a website, you can confirm that the email address has been obtained by the spam sender. At this time, you can log on to Sneakemail.com to delete the email address and no spam emails will be sent to this email address. Your real email address does not need to be changed.
I tried two websites using this mechanism, sneakemail.com and mailnull.com, both of which are effective. The Mailnull.com website also contains a function called Web Contact Form, which allows website management mailboxes that do not want to receive spam emails to receive normal Contact emails sent by visitors.
Summary
I really like the last method to deal with spam. Because I can easily delete any email addresses targeted by spammers. Although this method adds some steps, it seems complicated, but it allows us to control the number of spam.
