1. Preparations before installation

1. Prepare the installation package for Windows XP Professional.
2. Back up the software and personal data files to be retained on the hard disk.
3. Back up all files in the ibmtools directory on drive C to other drives (tgt_drv ).
4. Prepare the device driver:
1) chipset driver
2) display driver
3) monitor driver
4) hotkey feature File
5) Sound Card Driver
6) ThinkPad configuration program
7) Modem driver
8) Intel PRO/100 ve NIC Driver
9) Intel Wireless Network Card Driver (only applicable to models with pre-installed Technology)
10) IBM dual-band or IBM 802.11a/B/G wireless network card driver (only applicable to models with IBM dual-band or IBM 802.11a/B/g Wi-Fi network card preset)
11) Cisco Wireless NIC Driver (only applicable to models with preset Cisco Wireless NICS)
12) Bluetooth driver (applicable only to models with preset Bluetooth devices)
13) ibm pm Device Driver
14) mouse driver
15) trackpoint helper
16) ultranav Wizard program
17) easyeject Program
18) keyboard mizmization Program

Ii. Install Windows XP Professional
After Cold boot, Press F1 to enter the BIOS when the ThinkPad icon appears, and select the startup Item,
Set the CD-ROM to the first option, place the Windows XP Professional disc into the optical drive, and press F10 to save and exit.
After you restart your computer, boot from the Windows XP Professional CD and start to install Windows XP Professional. Follow the prompts to install Windows XP Professional.

After installing the operating system, visit the Microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp,
Upgrade and install Windows XP Service Pack 1.

3. Install the driver

Before installing the driver, run the downloaded driver and press the on-screen prompt to decompress the driver to the hard disk. The default directory is c: \ drivers \.
The directories used below are the default decompression directories.

1. Install the chipset driver
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ intelinf \ infinst_autol.exe.
B. Go to the intel chipset software installation utility installation page,
Click Next;
The Protocol screen appears. Click Yes;
Readme information appears. click Next;
After the file copy is complete, the system prompts you to restart. Select "yes, I want to restart the computer now" and click Finish;

Install the USB 2.0 driver
A. Click Start, set, and control panel;
B. On the control panel, double-click the System icon, click the "hardware" tab, and click the Device Manager;
C. In the Device Manager, select and expand other devices and double-click the Universal Serial Bus Controller;
D. In the general serial bus controller attributes, click to reinstall the driver;
E. In the hardware Update Wizard, select automatic software installation (recommended) and click Next.
The system automatically searches for and installs the USB2.0 controller,
The device name is Intel (r) 82801db/dbm usb 2.0 enhanced host controller -- 24cd;
After the installation is complete, click Finish;

2. Install the display driver
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ Display \ graphics \ setup.exe;
B. On the ATI software installation page,
Click Next;
The Protocol screen appears. Click Yes;
Select the installation mode and click the express button;
C. After the file is copied, a system prompt is displayed. Select "yes, I want to restart my computer now" and click Finish;

3. Install the monitor driver
A. Click Start and control panel, double-click the system in Control Panel, and click hardware-Device Manager;
B. Expand the monitor in the Device Manager, select the IBM ThinkPad 1024*768 tft LCD panel, right-click and choose Properties;
C. In the Properties window, select the driver and click Update driver;
D. In the hardware Update Wizard,
Select "Install from list or specified location (advanced)" and click Next;
Select "include this location in the search Clock", enter the path: C: \ ibmtools \ drivers \ monitor \ WINXP, and click Next;
E. After the file is copied, click Finish;

4. Install the hotkey Program
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ hotkey \ setup.exe and click OK;
B. On the ThinkPad hotkey features Setup page,
Select install or upgrade Driver (s) or ThinkPad software and click Next;
Check whether the check box before on screen display is selected. click Next;
Click Install to start installation;
The system prompts completed. Click OK;
Click Close to end the installation;
C. The system prompts you to restart the computer. Click Yes;

5. Install the Sound Card Driver
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ audio \ setup.exe;
B. On the soundmax installation page, click Next;
C. After the file copy is complete, the system will prompt you to restart. Select "Yes, restart the computer now" and click "finish.

6. Install the ThinkPad configuration program
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ w9x \ utility \ setup.exe and click OK;
B. On the ThinkPad configuration setup interface,
Click Next;
Select the installation path or use the default path and click Next;
Select typical as the installation type and click Next;
Click Next;
C. After the file is copied, the system prompts that the computer will be restarted,
Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, click Finish, and restart;

7. Install the modem driver
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ swmdmluc \ w2kxp \ setup.exe;
B. The system prompts: Do you want to install a modem? Click OK;

8. Install the Ethernet NIC Driver
A. Click Start, set, and control panel;
B. On the control panel, double-click the System icon;
C. In the system, click the hardware tab and the Device Manager;
D. In Device Manager, select and expand network adapter items,
Double-click the Ethernet controller;
E. In the Ethernet controller properties, select the driver and click Update driver;
F. In the hardware Update Wizard, select to install from the list or specified location and click Next;
Select the location included in the search, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ Ethernet \ pro100 \ winxp32 In the Path box, and click Next;
After the file is copied, click Finish;

9. Install the Intel Wireless Network Card (802.11b) Driver (only applicable to models with pre-installed Technology)
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ wllanint \ prow2100 \ WINXP \ setupwld.exe;
The system prompts you to install the wireless NIC driver. The device identified is Intel (r) Pro/wireless LAN 2100 3B mini PCI adapter;

10. Install the IBM dual-band wireless NIC Driver (only applicable to models with preset IBM dual-band 802.11a & 802.11b wireless NICS)
A. Click Start, set, and control panel;
B. On the control panel, double-click the System icon, click the "hardware" tab, and click the Device Manager;
C. In the Device Manager, select and expand other devices and double-click PCI Ethernet controller;
D. In the PCI Ethernet controller attribute, click to reinstall the driver;
E. In the hardware Update Wizard, select to install from the list or specified location and click Next;
Select the location included in the search, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ wllanphl \ XP \ driver in the Path box, and click Next;
After the file is copied, click Finish;

11. Install the Cisco Wireless NIC Driver (only applicable to models pre-installed with Cisco Wireless Nic)
A. Click Start, set, and control panel;
B. On the control panel, double-click the System icon, click the "hardware" tab, and click the Device Manager;
C. In the Device Manager, select and expand the network adapter and double-click the Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN adapter;
D. In properties, select the driver and click Update driver;
E. In the hardware Update Wizard, select "Install (advanced)" from the list or specified location, and click "Next;
Select the location included in the search, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ wllancsc \ driver \ WINXP in the Path box, and click Next;
After the file is copied, click Finish;
(If the message "The driver digital signature is not found" appears, click "continue installation)
D. restart the computer;

Install the Cisco Wireless Network Adapter Utility Program
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ wllancsc \ utility \ setup.exe and click Next;
B. Install the SDK as instructed on the screen;

12. Install Bluetooth drivers (for models with preset Bluetooth devices only)
Note: You must disable the bluetooth device before installing the Bluetooth card software.

A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ bdcact \ setup.exe;
B. On the Installation Wizard page, click Next to continue;
On the device information page, enter the device name, set the device type to "laptop", and click Next;
Click Next to continue;
Click "continue installation;
After the file copy is complete, click Finish;
The system prompts you to restart the computer. Click Yes.
C. After the system restarts, turn on the bluetooth device, and the system finds that IBM integrade USB Bluetooth,
In the hardware Update Wizard, select automatic software installation and click Next;
After the file is copied, click Finish.

13. Install the ibm pm driver
A. Click Start, set, and control panel;
B. On the control panel, double-click the System icon;
C. In the system, click the hardware tab and the Device Manager;
D. In Device Manager, select and expand other devices and double-click an unknown device;
E. In the unknown device properties, click to reinstall the driver;
F. In the hardware Update Wizard, select to install from the list or specified location and click Next;
Select the location included in the search, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ ibmpm In the Path box, and click Next;
After the file is copied, click Finish;

14. Install the mouse driver
A. Click Start and run, and enter: C: \ drivers \ win \ unav \ setup.exe;
B. On the installation page, select the language, select "English", and click "OK;
C. On the IBM ThinkPad ultranav Driver Installation interface,
Click Next;
Confirm that the information is correct. click Next;
D. After the installation is complete, the system prompts you to restart the computer and select "yes, I want to restart my computer". restart the computer;

15. Install the trackpoint auxiliary program
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ tp4accs \ setup.exe and click OK;
B. the prompt is "Select language", "select English", and click "OK;
C. Click Next on the installation page;
After the file is copied, the system prompts that the computer will be restarted,
Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, click Finish, and restart;

16. Install the ultranav Wizard program
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ unavwiz \ setup.exe and click OK;
B. the prompt is "Select language", "select English", and click "OK;
C. Click Next on the installation page;
Display the installation directory and click Next;
Display the installation name and click Next;
After the file is copied, click Finish;

17. Install the easyeject Program
A. Click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ w2k \ ezeject \ setup.exe and click OK;
B. Click Next on the installation page;
Display the installation directory and click Next;
Select typical as the installation type and click Next;
Display the installation name and click Next;
After the file is copied, select "yes, I want to restart my computer now" and click Finish to restart;

18. install the keyboard mizmization Program
. click Start and run. In the run dialog box, enter c: \ drivers \ win \ keycustm \ setup.exe and click OK.
B. on the installation page, click Next.
the installation directory is displayed, and click Next.
the installation name is displayed. Click Next.
confirm that the information is correct and click Next;
after the file is copied, select "yes, I want to restart my computer now" and click Finish to restart.
