No system installation CD, and no system ISO. However, for Linux, everything is open-source. If there is a network, everything is in your hands. Therefore, I plan to download Fedora9 from the Internet and install it on the hard disk, so as to keep the XP/Linux dual-system installation options.

1, download Fedora-9-i386-DVD online: fedoraproject has a complete variety of CPU versions. The personal CPU is in the 386 architecture, so the DVD version is downloaded for installation on the hard disk. This option is available in FEDORA installation.

2. Download GRUB. GRUB is an excellent multi-system boot software. The purpose is to enable and install the Linux dual-system and Linux boot at startup.

3. Hard Disk partitioning. Separate a hard disk space under XP to install the Linux dual system. The minimum size is 5 GB. In my computer's logical partition, I selected the last partition with 14 GB. In "disk management", I deleted the logical partition and separated it from the XP file system.

4. Pre-installation configuration. Configure GRUB and start Linux installation.
A: extract vmlinuz and initrd. img from Fedora-9-i386-DVD/isoLinux to the C-drive root directory and install the Linux dual system.
B: Decompress grub4dos, extract grldrw.grub.exe and menu. lst, and store them in the C root directory. It is used to boot and start Linux.
C: Add GRUB to xp boot. Modify C:/boot. ini (this file is a system hidden file. You need to remove the check box before selecting/viewing/hiding the protected operating system file from the folder and displaying the content of the system folder, hide files and folders/show all files and folders to view and modify them);/boot. add c: \ grldr = GRUB to ini. Select to start GRUB at startup
D: Modify GRUB. Add a Linux Installation option. Add the following at the end of menu. lst:
Title Fedora-9-i386 Install
Kernel (hd0, 0)/vmlinuz
Initrd (hd0, 0)/initrd. img
This file is extracted and started to install the Linux system. Hd0, 0 refers to the first partition of the first hard disk, that is, Area C)
E: Remember the location of the Fedora-9-i386-DVD system installation image: Because after installation is started, the installation file partition will be selected
You can use PartitionManager.9.0 for memorization. I store it in D:/, that is, 5. As for why is 5, the following describes)

5. Start GRUB. Restart and select GRUB for GRUB.

6, start the Fedora-9-i386 Install. Select this custom function under GRUB.

7, install Fedora-9-i386. Configuration and installation are always performed according to personal conditions.
Key points:
A: Installation image path:
It is recorded as 4 E, sda5. SDA5 Source: SATA hard disk, so the Linux device name is sdX, and X is a because there is only one hard disk, so it is. In addition, 5 is because the first partition in the logical partition of the d disk must be 5 .)
B: disk partition settings: There are four options in the list box on the interface. Select "create custom partition structure" here.
Partition status
Select the partition: 14.4 GB
/Boot: Start the partition. Fixed size of 128 MB ext3
/: File System: ext3 uses all available space.
/Swap: swap partition: twice the memory size: 1024

8. Complete. Follow the prompts to perform personalized configuration and installation step by step.

9. Set the dual-system startup option. If the corresponding configuration already exists during installation, this step is not required. Of course, this step is also a technical point of BOOT. Configure GRUB and add a ora (2.6.25-14. fc9.i686) Startup item.
Add the following at the end of menu. lst:
Title Fedora (2.6.25-14. fc9.i686)
Root (hd0, 8)

If this content is not written, you can see it in the/boot/grub. conf file in Linux.

10. Restart the instance. After the instance is started, select GRUB and then the custom Fedora (2.6.25-14. fc9.i686 ). Go to Linux.
