Thoughts on reducing the number of Google Adsense clicks

In the last two days, adsense publishers found that google adsense's clicks were greatly reduced. Why? According to an article on the adsense Taiwan site (traditional Chinese), some webmasters in China have received an email from the adsense group "about reducing ad clickable areas. We believe that google aims to protect the interests of advertisers, but this will inevitably reduce the number of ad clicks on our webmasters, the decrease in the number of ad clicks will greatly reduce the total revenue. If the number of clicks on an advertisement is reduced to half of the total revenue, the total revenue can be reduced to half.

 

In fact, according to observations on several of my websites, the actual number of clicks on advertisements has been reduced by more than half, from 2% in the past to 0.8%, and revenue has been reduced by nearly 3/5. This is undoubtedly a major blow to webmasters who rely on advertising alliances for their livelihood. We have repeatedly tested and found that, taking the advertisement unit 336*280 as an example, you can click all the previous rectangular boxes, but now only the title and URL of the advertisement can be clicked, even the comments of the advertisement cannot be clicked, let alone empty areas without text.

However, this is in line with the market rules and will be done sooner or later. In this case, how should we adjust it?

First, it is the best idea to make websites do not rely solely on advertising alliances for benefits. In the past, the advertisement publisher conducted a vote like this: what percentage of google adsense's total revenue to your website? In fact, it is impossible to rely solely on adsense. A few days ago, Yinxing told me that his membership-based paid website is basically on the right track. In addition, there are several DX websites that do not need any alliance advertisements, this is much better than making money by advertising. It is indeed a good way for websites to make profits in addition to advertising alliances.

 

Second, consortium advertising cannot only serve as one. Many people currently only put google ad code on their websites. Although the benefits from google adsense are generally greater than the total benefits of other ad alliances, but let's move on to the Baidu alliance, Alimama, keyrun, and lianmeng products. This is much more profitable than google alone. Although the current unit price of the domestic alliance is not very good, but for a site with around 10 thousand IP addresses, it is enough for other alliances to pay for servers in one month.

Finally, in response to this change in google adsense, I would like to provide a few more ideas. The first is to adjust the position of the adsense unit, in the past, many friends always put the 336*280 advertisement unit in the upper-right corner of the text. Now it can be placed in the upper-left corner of the text, which is also recommended by the ADSENSE group. Second, adjust the color of the advertisement. After some tests, I found that, on many pages of text content, it is best to contrast the color of the advertisement with the color of the body (before narrowing down the Click area in adsense, I recommend that the color of the advertisement be similar to the color of the body ), this makes the advertisement more obvious. Third, the content is king, and I try to make some high-price theme, which I also mentioned when chatting with many friends, it is the English site (the server is a pure English site outside China). Generally, there is a good unit price, and the benefits are also good.
