Three roles of the scrum team

The scrum team includes three roles, namely the product owner, the development team, and the scrum Master.

The Scrum team is a self-organizing, cross-functional, complete team. Self-organizing teams decide how best to complete their work, rather than being directed by others outside the team.

Cross-functional teams have all the skills they need to get the job done, without having to rely on people outside the team. The Scrum Team model is designed to maximize adaptability, creativity, and productivity.

The Scrum team maximizes feedback opportunities by iterating and incrementally delivering product functionality. Incremental delivery of potentially deliverable product increments ensures that each iteration has a potentially available release.

Scrum Role: Product Owner

The product owner is responsible for maximizing the value of the product and development team work. The way you do this will vary depending on your organization, your Scrum team, and your individual team members.

The product owner is the only person responsible for managing the product backlog list. The management of the Product Backlog list includes:

    • Clearly express product-by-item list entries
    • Order the items in the product list to best achieve your goals and mission
    • Ensure the value of the work performed by the development team
    • Make sure the Product list is visible, transparent, clear to everyone, and shows the next step of the Scrum team
    • Ensure that the development team has a certain degree of understanding of the items in the product's list of agent items

The product owner can do the above work in person, or it can be done by the development team. However, the product owner is the responsible person.

The product owner is a person, not a committee. The product owner may reflect the needs of a committee in a list of product agents, but to change the priority of an item must first convince the product owner.

In order to ensure the success of the product owner's work, all the people in the Organization must respect his decision. The decisions made by the product owner are clearly visible in the content and sorting of the product backlog list. No one should ask the development team to work on a different set of requirements, and the development team will not be allowed to follow any other person's instructions.

Scrum role: the development team

The development team includes professionals who are responsible for delivering potentially deliverable "complete" product increments at the end of each Sprint. Only members of the development team can create increments.

The development team is built and empowered by the Organization to organize and manage their work. The resulting synergy can maximize the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the development team. The development team has several features:

    • They are self-organizing, and no one (even Scrum Master can) tell the development team how to turn the list of product-handling items into potentially available functionality.
    • The development team is cross-functional and the team as a whole has all the skills needed to create a product increment.
    • Scrum does not endorse the titles of development team members, and they are developers regardless of which job they are responsible for. This rule is not an exception.
    • Each member of the development team can have strengths and areas of focus, but responsibility rests with the entire development team
    • The development team does not include sub-teams responsible for specific areas such as testing or business analysis.
Size of the development team

The optimal size of the development team is small enough to remain agile and large enough to accomplish important work. Development teams with fewer than 3 people do not have enough interaction to achieve a significant increase in productivity. Small teams may be subject to skill limitations in the Sprint, resulting in an inability to deliver a published product increment. Teams of more than 9 people require too much coordination and communication work. Large teams create too much complexity and are not easy to experience process management. The roles of the product owner and Scrum Master are not included in this number unless they are also involved in performing the work in the Sprint Representative list.

Scrum role: Scrum Master

Scrum Master is responsible for ensuring that scrum is understood and implemented. To achieve this goal, Scrum master ensures that the scrum team follows the theory, practice, and rules of scrum. Scrum Master is a serviced leader in the scrum team.

Scrum Master helps people outside the scrum team understand how they interact with the scrum team. Scrum Master maximizes the value created by the scrum team by changing these interactions.
