In the afternoon of Saturday, I was invited to give lectures to a class of the Peking University Institute of Cultural Industry. In fact, I am not a professor, not "lectures", more is to share some of my students in China's first-line media entertainment companies to provide financial advisory services in the process of some of the experience and thought.
During recess, a classmate came up to ask: I have a film and television entertainment company, but the scale is still very small, what should I do?
I replied: Grow up as soon as possible.
She asked: "How can we grow up as soon as possible, will anyone be willing to invest in our small company?"
I ask: you first tell me you have anything special place?
She's very candid: it doesn't seem to be.
I asked again: What do you mainly do?
She blurted out: we do everything.
This is the answer I am most afraid to hear from the entrepreneur.
Even Time Warner, General Motors, Lenovo and other elephants are abandoning the value chain extension strategy to return to the main industry, not to mention an ordinary ant.
I told her: you will always have 100 opportunities in front of you, but it is possible that none of them are you should catch. If you can find a chance for you to catch, you are already very lucky.
To some extent, doing business is not about learning to seize opportunities, but about learning to give up opportunities, at least to learn to give up 99% of opportunities.
Later, a classmate asked: What kind of enterprise is suitable for venture capital?
My answer is simple: first, the potential market is big enough; your focus (or focus) is small enough, third, you are more qualified than others (whether it is because you are earlier or better) with your needle as thin focus on the day of the same big market a hole can be quickly torn open.
Do not know I mean to understand, anyway, with Tianjin Vernacular said is: to the entrepreneur, do business you have to have a bit of it; you do not have, why not do it, honestly first to give others dozen years of work no why not.
I hope that the students who do the film and television company back to do two things: first, think in their own "What Do" business in which one thing is their favorite, best at, do the most passionate think about the excitement can be three days and three nights do not sleep. Second, if there is, from now on only do that thing until you become the market for that one thing first three; if not, turn off the company, change the brain recharge, and travel.
