Tips for adding page numbers to a Word document

After you set up a column in a Word document, you can only insert the same page number in the page, although you have two or more columns of text on one page, but you use the Insert Page Number command. But in our day-to-day use, we encounter special situations, such as the need to add page numbers to each column of the document, or a custom page to start adding page numbers. How can these be achieved?

Multiple columns set page numbers

The following method is divided into two columns for one page, and it says that there are two parts of a page that add page numbers to them.

1. Click Header and Footer on the View menu to switch to the footer on the first page.

2. Press the "CTRL+F9" key continuously in the appropriate position corresponding to the left column, and two braces "{{}}" appear.

3. Then enter the characters in "{}" to form this: {={page}*2-1} (note in English state, when the loss "{{}}}" no longer lose, with the original).

If you show the page number, the left column will be: {={page}*2-1} right column: {={page}*2}; If you want to display: page x or-*-, the left column will be: {{}} page –{{}}-

4. Select "{={page}*2-1}" and click "Update Field" on the shortcut menu when you are finished.

5. In the right column corresponding to the appropriate location of "page" to insert the cursor in the middle of two words, consecutive press the CTRL+F9 key, there are two curly braces "{{}}". Then enter the following character "{={page}*2}" in the curly brace "{}".

6. Select "{={page}*2}" after completion and click the right mouse button to select "Update Field" on the shortcut menu (Figure 1).

If your document is divided into three columns and you want to display page numbers under each column, you can modify the field code between "page" to "{={page}*3-2}, {={page}*3-1}" and "{={page}*3}" (Same as more columns).

You can then display the correct page numbers for each column by updating the field as described in the previous procedure. To modify the field code after the field is updated,

If one page is divided into three columns, the formula is: {={page}*3-2}{={page}*3-1} {={page}*3}

Tip: Page number set to appropriate location

Adjust the position of the footer in Page setup → page setup → footer to 1.5 cm (switch to footer position according to your actual settings: View → header and footer). Inserts a 1x2 table with a row that is not greater than 1 cm and the width of the page (the table has two columns to be equal) and centers the text in the table, executes the top 3 in the middle of the left column, and executes 5 on the right.

What do we do when we edit an article (including a table of contents) and want to insert page numbers from the third page after the table of contents? The method has two.

Method One: First move the cursor to the end of the second page, click "Insert → separator → section break type" to select "Next", then click View to open the Header and Footer toolbar, and adjust the cursor to the third page, which is the page where you are going to start numbering, and link to previous on the Header and Footer toolbar button to not be selected, and then click the "Set page number Format" button, in the pop-up dialog box, select the "Start Page numbering" option 1, click OK, and finally click on the Header and Footer toolbar, "Insert Page Number" button, complete (Figure 2).

Method Two: You can do this by setting a different header and footer, but you need to add a section of the document that needs to be inserted into the page. How do you divide the section? First insert the cursor in the document where you need to section, then open the Insert menu, click the "separator" command, a separator dialog box appears.

There are four types in the section break type: ① the next page ② consecutive ③ even pages ④ singular pages. The next page indicates that the text after the section break starts on a new page; Continuous "indicates that the text after the section break appears on the same page;" Even Page "indicates that the text after the section break starts with the next even page;" Singular page "The text after the section break begins with the next singular page. Select an item according to your own choreography and press "OK" to return to the document. You can divide the document into several different sections according to this method.

Now you can set different headers and footers in different sections in the usual way. Just starting with the second section, when you open the Headers and Footers toolbar, the word "same as previous" appears after "header-2nd" and you must click the "Previous" button on the toolbar to remove the words "same as previous" and then set the header, This later header is different from the one in the previous section. The footer settings are the same.

Finally, in the "Header Footer" toolbar, click on the "Insert AutoText" Drop-down Triangle, select "Page number" is OK.
