Tips for setting six Windows XP Registry

I have been using XP for a long time. I have tried and sorted out many interesting Registry Modification Techniques. Here I will write them for your reference. When talking about Registry Modification, there is always a saying: Be careful. Backup is required before modification. One step of failure may make your machine unrecognize others. In the following description, if the specified position does not contain the key/value, you must create a new one. Unless otherwise stated, all values mentioned here are of the REG_DWORD type.

  1. Improve the XP response speed

Find the HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop sub-key and modify the HungAppTimeout value. The HungAppTimeout value indicates the time limit that the system requires the user to manually end the suspended task. The default value is 5000 and the type is REG_SZ. Reducing this value can reduce the response latency of the system in some special circumstances. For example, you can set this value to 1000. When adjusting this key value, Note: if some software runs slowly on your system, setting this key value too small may cause XP to mistakenly think that the running software has been suspended. In this case, you can gradually increase the HungAppTimeout value by 1000 each time until XP no longer mistakenly regards the running software as "stop responding ".

  2. Increase the display speed of the submenu of the "Start" menu

Reduce the MenuShowDelay value (same as above ). The value type is REG_SZ. The default value is 400. You can set it to 50. If this value is set too small, for example, 0, the sub-menu will be displayed immediately when the mouse pointer passes through the menu, interfering with the user's selection operation. After the experiment, the sub-menu can be set to 50 to make the sub-menu appear as soon as possible, and to avoid the child menu that quickly jumps out of sight from interfering with the line of sight.

  3. Reduce the latency of the LAN browsing

Like Windows 2000, XP has an annoying latency problem when browsing the LAN, but it is hard to find information about this problem. If you are browsing a Windows 9x machine, for example, in the address bar of a neighbor on the Internet? /A> "\ computername". The XP machine checks the "Task Plan" on the machine it is connecting ". This search process may cause a latency of up to 30 seconds. If you open a shared resource directly, for example, enter "\ computernameshare" in the address bar of the network neighbor, there will be no such delay. To avoid XP searching for "Task Scheduler" operations and speed up browsing the network, you can delete the hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionpolicerremotecomputernamespace {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} subkey. The type of the key is REG_SZ.

  Iv. Disable balloon pop-up information

Find the hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionpoliceradvanced sub-key and set the hexadecimal value EnableBalloonTips to 0.

  5. Show Hidden Files

Under the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent versionpoliceradvanced sub-key, several values affect the display of hidden files and folders. To make XP display Hidden files and folders, set Hidden to 1. To display the file extension, set HideFileExt to 0. To display a protected operating system file, set ShowSuperHidden to 1. Note: You can also modify these settings on the "View" tab in the "Folder Options" dialog box.

  6. display the button for ing network drive

Find the hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionpoliceradvanced sub-key and set MapNetDrvBtn to 1. The button for ing the network drive will appear on the toolbar of Windows resource manager and my computer.
