Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu, briefly described the future and development strategy of Ubuntu in an interview recently. He said Ubuntu had to rely on its own characteristics to achieve real success.
When asked whether Wine (Windows compatibility) or local Linux ports are important factors for Ubuntu success, Mark Shuttleworth replied: "They all play an important role, but fundamentally, free software needs to follow its own rules. Unlike proprietary software, our platform needs to be successful based on its own characteristics."
"If Linux is just another method for running Windows applications, we cannot establish a foothold. OS/2 is an example ." Shuttleworth said that he also expressed his outlook on open-source Linux. Linux is not Windows, and its purpose is to bring users a different appearance and experience from Windows, running in the same way as Windows does not make sense.
Linux needs to follow its own path and clarify what the so-called "yourself" means. Different Release versions should have their own characteristics and achieve success with these features, interoperability with non-open-source platforms such as Windows is very important, but it is another thing.
