Internet surfing has never been so wonderful! Surface comes with two versions of Internet Explorer: The touch and Desktop editions so you can easily surf the Web from the Start screen or desktop. Both of these Internet Explorer applications share the same browsing history and settings. Here are some of the most common usage tips for these two versions of IE, hoping to give you a better understanding of their relationship.
Touch version of Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer 10 is optimized for touch operations. The tiles and tabs are zoomed in to make it easy to click and appear only when you need them.
To browse the network using Internet Explorer:
In the Start screen, click or click Internet Explorer.
Click or click the Address bar at the bottom of the screen. If the address bar is not displayed, slide down from the top edge of the screen (right-click if you are using the mouse).
The top of the address bar displays a fixed, popular, and favorite Web site (scroll to see all the posts).
Enter a URL or search term in the Address bar, or click on a common, fixed, or favorite site.
Navigating by using tabs
To open a new tab or switch between tabs, slide down from the top edge of the screen (right-click if you are using the mouse). The tabs bar displays summary information for the open Web page along the top.
Click or click the browser window to switch to it.
Click or click + to open a new browser tab. When you open a new tab, a fixed, popular, and favorite Web site appears above the address bar so that you can quickly jump to those sites.
Click or click Three (...) to open the InPrivate tab, or close all tabs (except the tab you are browsing).
Web Favorites
You can pin a Web site to the Start screen or add it to your browser favorites. Tap or click the Fixed Web site button from the Address bar, and then select either fix to Start screen or add to favorites. For more information about this section, see Add to, view, and organize favorites.
If you use a Microsoft account, your browser favorites and history can be synchronized between Windows RT and Windows 8 computers. For more information about this section, see Synchronization Settings.
Page quickly in the Web
Turn on the Quick Flip page to more smoothly from one to another page or from one article to another. If you are reading an article on a news site that supports fast paging, you can slide over the page (or click the Forward button) to go to the next page.
To turn on quick paging, open the Settings Super button from Internet Explorer, and then tap or click Internet Options.
Desktop version of Internet Explorer
You can surf the Web using the desktop version of Internet Explorer.
To start an Internet Explorer desktop application, do the following:
In the Start screen, click or click Desktop (or press the Windows logo key + D).
Click or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.
Change browser settings
To change your browser settings, click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of Internet Explorer (Desktop Edition), and then click or click Internet Options. (If you need to set up Help, click or click "?" in the upper-right corner.) )
For example, to turn off the Pop-up blocker, do the following:
Open the desktop version of Internet Explorer.
Click or click the "Settings" icon (gear in the upper right corner), and then click or click Internet Options.
Click or click the Privacy tab, and then clear the Enable Pop-up Blocker check box.
Both of these Internet Explorer applications use the same settings.
Browser history
To view the browsing history, do the following:
Open the desktop version of Internet Explorer.
Tap or click the Favorites icon (the star in the upper-right corner), and then click or click the history tab.
