One, add applications, folders and files to the Dock

1. Open your Application folder.

2. Find the app you want to add.

3. Tap and hold the application icon and drag it to the dock (when you move the icon to the dock, an existing app icon in the dock moves to the sides to make room).

4. Let go and leave the app in the Dock.

5. Repeat the steps above to add more apps to the Dock.

Note: You can also add folders or individual files (folders and files will be added to the right side of the Dock splitter line).

Ii. removing applications, folders and files from the Dock

Before you try to remove an application from the dock, quit the application because the open application icon will always appear on the dock.

1 Click and hold the application icon on the Dock.

2. Drag it outward to leave the Dock.

3. After a few moments OS X pops up and says "remove" to remove it.

4. Repeat the steps above to delete files or folders and files that have been added to the Dock.

Third, change the size and position of the Dock

You can resize the dock, resize the icon (when you move your mouse pointer over the dock), adjust the dock's position (left, bottom, or right), adjust the animation of the minimized window, and so on.

1. Open System Preferences.

2. Click the Dock Options icon.

3. Slide the slider to resize the Dock and adjust the magnification of the mouse hover over it.

4. Click to select the location where you want the Dock to appear.

5. Click to select the Minimize window animation effect.

Iv. Extra Tips

1. You can move the mouse pointer over the split line to the right of the dock (the mouse light turns into a double-headed arrow, and the dock size is resized by tapping and dragging the head.)

2. You can also hold down the Shift key while you tap and hold the split line, and then drag the dock freely to dock it on a different edge of the screen.

Add a blank split area to the Dock

1. Open the terminal application and enter the following command:

Defaults write Com.apple.dock persistent-apps-array-add ' {"Tile-type" = "Spacer-tile";} '; Killall Dock

2. Press the return key.

3. Repeat the above steps to add multiple blank areas to the Dock.

4. Close the terminal application.

Note: White space is like a transparent icon, you can click and hold it to drag to the position you like; If you don't like it, drag it outside the dock for a moment to remove it (just like removing an application icon from the dock).

Vi. adding a "Recently used" stack to the Dock

1. Open the terminal application and enter the following command:

Defaults write Com.apple.dock persistent-others-array-add ' {"Tile-data" = {"List-type" = 1;}; "Tile-type" = "Recents-tile";} '; Killall Dock

2. Press the return key.

3. Close the terminal.

Note: The most recently used stack appears to the right of the splitter line in the Dock, near the trash. You can further view the display of the selection (list, grid, etc.). If you no longer need it, simply drag it out of the Dock to delete it.
