To compress a virtual machine disk using Diskgenius

Does the user who uses the virtual machine feel that your virtual disk files are getting bigger and that they are filling up the precious disk space (the host physical hard disk)?

Some people will think, I started the virtual machine directly, and then the useless data in the delete, not just it? The actual test found that the size of the virtual disk file stored on the physical hard disk did not decrease after this deletion. The virtual machine disk file is only slowly getting larger, and the virtual machine software does not "compress" the virtual disk after the user deletes the data.

Now, we can use the diskgenius software to compress. For example, we are using a VMware virtual machine, and its virtual disk file is in the VMDK format. At this point we can compress it in the following way. As shown, this is the size before it is uncompressed (around 1.7G).

The procedure is as follows:

1. In Diskgenius Software, first open the virtual disk to be compressed (menu: "Hard disk –> open virtual hard disk file "). Once opened, you can see the virtual disks on the load in the left window.

2. Then we create a new VMDK virtual disk with a capacity of not less than the source virtual hard disk (menu: "Hard disk –> new virtual hard disk file –> new VMware virtual hard disk File ").

3. Start the compression. Select (Menu: "Tool –> clone hard Drive "), when the dialog box pops up, select the VMDK virtual disk to compress when selecting the source hard disk, select the new VMDK virtual disk that we just created when selecting the target hard disk, then click "Start".

4, now has been copied, we found the path of two virtual disk files, compare the size.

As you can see, the virtual hard disk is compressed.

At this point, there is a need to do some follow-up cleanup work. First turn off the two virtual hard disks you just opened in the Diskgenius software, or close the Diskgenius software directly. Then rename the source virtual hard disk file (backup, just in case), and then rename the new virtual hard disk file to the file name of the source virtual hard disk (note the exact same). Finally open the virtual machine, start a virtual system, no problem can delete the source virtual hard disk files before compression.
