1 KMS Introduction
KMS (key Management service, Windows Key Management Services) This feature is a new product activation mechanism launched by Microsoft from Windows Vista and is suitable for volume licensing. KMS requires a KMS server in the local area network, and the role of the KMS server is to provide a random activation ID (different from the product activation key) for all computers in the LAN for the operating system cycle (typically 180 days), and then the KMS service inside the computer will automatically activate the system. Implement the normal system software service and operation. Therefore, the computer must maintain a regular connection with the KMS server so that the automatic check of the KMS activation Service implements the automatic renewal of the activation, which limits the activation scope within the company, avoids unauthorized authorization to the outside computer, and when the illegal activator leaves the company domain, Because the client KMS service cannot connect to a KMS activation server that is located within the domain, let it provide a new serial number that will revert to the trial version status after more than 180 days due to the expiration of the activation ID, while the legitimate grantee is able to obtain the ID update periodically and maintain the correct activation status.
2 Installing Windows keys in Windows Server
In this article, you install the KMS key for Windows Server R2 on a computer in Windows Server R2 Datacenter, and then you install the KMS key for Office 2013.
(1) Prepare a Windows Server R2 computer, which can be a physical machine or a virtual machine, but when ready, the machine will be pinned as a KMS Server. The current lab environment is a virtual machine with 2GB memory and 2 CPUs installed, as shown in Windows Server R2 Datacenter Edition, 2-1. Note the computer name (the current name is Kms-server), which is required when configuring KMS Server.

4 DNS Server Configuration
To use Key Management Service (KMS) to activate Windows with Office, the KMS host must be detectable. A KMS host can automatically publish its presence by creating a service (SRV) resource record (RR) on the DNS server.
When a KMS client queries the KMS information for the first time to DNS, it randomly selects a KMS host from the list of SRV RRs returned by DNS. The address of the DNS server that contains the SRV RR can be listed as a suffix entry on the KMS client. This allows the SRV RR for KMS to be advertised on a single DNS server, allowing KMS clients with other primary DNS servers to locate the SRV RR.
It is also simple to configure the SRV records for a KMS host in DNS, with the following sequence and steps in mind:
(1) Create an A record in the DNS server to point to the IP address of the KMS host, For example, in this example, the IP address of the KMS server is 172.18.96.1, you can create a record named server in DNS with the IP address shown in 172.18.96.1,2-19. (description, the current example domain name is heinfo.edu.cn).

5 KMS Client Usage considerations
For Windows and office systems, if you are using KMS server activation, the following conditions must be met:
(1) Version requirements: All Windows Server 2008 and its later operating systems, Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition Windows clients (Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10), and the education edition of Windows 10. Version of Office 2010, Office 2013, Office 2016 Open License. Retail versions of Office cannot use KMS activation.
(2) KMS client count: For KMS clients, this count can be "volume activated" only if the KMS client "accumulates" count reaches a certain number, which is 5 for Windows Server and Office, for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and so on) is 25.
(3) For Windows operating systems, a KMS client key installation is required to use KMS server activation.
(4) For Office, there is a "media" requirement. Office includes: "Retail edition" and "Big client Edition", only "big client" office can use KMS server activation, and no product key is required during installation.
During Windows Setup, when you enter the serial number, you can enter the key for the corresponding version of the KMS client, so that after Windows is installed, if DHCP and DNS (the IP address of the KMS specified in DNS) are configured, the Windows client Automatically activate Windows after you obtain the IP address and DNS address.
If you do not enter a serial number during installation of Windows, or if you are using a different serial number to complete the installation, you can write a "batch script" to complete the replacement of the serial number in the script, specify the KMS server address, and then complete the activation. The following are the batches that are activated for Windows Server R2 Datacenter Edition with Office 2013, respectively. If you want to activate another Windows system, replace the corresponding Windows product serial number behind-IPK, and if you want to activate another version of Office, you will need to enter the installation path for the corresponding Office version in the batch process that activates Office 2013. Where the path to Office 2016 (the previous one is unchanged) is Office16,office 2010 is Office14. Also, replace the KMS-SERVER-IP in the batch file with the IP address of the KMS server in your network.
