Computer display static screen for too long time will burn the screen, reduce the life of the display. When your computer is idle, use a screensaver to avoid overheating the display, and to see fine images on the screen or what you're doing. The specific actions for setting up screen protection are as follows.
Step 1: Open the Display Properties dialog box, click to switch to the Screen Saver tab, and select a screen saver mode in the Screen saver drop-down list box, for example, select Subtitles, as shown in Figure 1.
Step 2: Click the "Settings" button to open the Marquee Setup dialog box shown in Figure 2. After you set the properties of the selected screen saver mode in the Marquee Settings dialog box, click OK to return to the Display Properties dialog box.
Step 3: The Windows XP system defaults to 20 minutes after setting up the screen saver in the wait edit box for how long the computer is idle.
Step 4: Click the OK button to close the Display Properties dialog box and set the end.
Tip: When the computer is not operating during the set time (moving the mouse and pressing the keys on the keyboard), the system will enter the screen saver. To get back to the operating interface, simply move the mouse or press any key on the keyboard.
You can set a password for your screen saver if you do not want someone to restore your computer's normal state during the screen saver operation. On the Screen Saver tab of the Display Properties dialog box, select the use password protection on recovery check box. The password for the screen saver is the current account password. If you do not set a password for your account, the screen saver password is not valid.
