Top prediction in data center field in 2015

In the next year, experts have predicted the situation that data center operators will face in 2015. In this case, the following are the predictions made in the field of data center technology in 2015.

Experts' predictions

All systems in the data center will be virtualized. This prediction is the conjecture of the past. I wrote one article after another in 2014 describing how all aspects of the data center infrastructure are or are about to implement virtualization or software definition. (Note: The predictions seem to include virtualization and software definitions under the virtualization category .)

If you want to list which system has the highest priority in virtualization, network infrastructure virtualization may be the top node.

Iot will have a significant impact on the data center. This prediction is another gift to experts. Gartner and Forrester have made almost no reasonable predictions about the growth of Iot devices. As a result, the amount of information processed and stored in the data center increases significantly.

This is an area of debate. Some people think that large data with centralized geographical locations will process a steady stream of information. Others disagree with this view and believe that in the future, data centers will need to be smaller, closer to the "edge", and geographically dispersed. The requirements for timeliness and network latency will determine which side of the view is correct.

The data center will contract and expand. This prediction is confusing, but it only means that companies with internal data centers will seriously consider it, the transfer of services to external enterprises creates a trade-off between potential "problems" and the advantages of reducing the burden, reducing technology and reducing the number of people, and deciding whether to migrate existing services to the cloud, and/or deploy new applications to the cloud. As part of the cloud ecosystem, the host hosting data center operator is very willing to provide services.

Simply put: services will shift from internal data centers to commercial data centers (extensions ).

Data center automation.Automation leads the data center operator's wish list. Thanks to its internal capabilities, Apple, Google, and Facebook have successively deployed customized data center infrastructure management (DCIM) systems. However, commercial operators do not have that much resources, so they have to make use of non-customized ready-made DCIM systems.

The data center must process the four values of big data. These four values are the index volume, type, speed, and accuracy, which will have a significant impact on commercial data center operators.

Companies that tried to handle these four VVS found that they wanted to expand their data centers internally and had no space or funds, so they had to seek outsourcing. A Data Center report from Hitachi Data Systems said: "In the future, data centers will treat data as information services and view data through dashboards; dashboards enable companies to efficiently use general, business-driven metrics. If the data center engine is deployed, enterprises can make better use of increasingly extensive and increasingly complex data, so that they can learn the truth more quickly and deeply and innovate quickly ."

Modular data center design.Designers and architects dedicated to data centers are rethinking their building methods. Previously, the data center was designed with a 20-year lifecycle. However, it is hard to imagine that a data center that has been around for so long will continue to be competitive without making major changes every few years. That is why data center construction providers are increasingly focusing on Modular Design: from prefabricated components (electric power centers, cooling towers and backup generators) to the entire data center, there is no "turnkey" module.

In addition to long service life, modularity also has the following advantages:

• Fast project turnover and a simple extension method.

• More efficient and standardized data centers: this is a major benefit for debugging systems and training employees.

• The turnkey data center module allows the company to flexibly respond to market trends.

Two unique predictions

Giles Proctor, vice president of data center services at Pacnet, a well-known telecommunications service provider, is in this PDF document (http://www.pacnet.com/resource-center/blog/data-center-predictions-for-2015-more-traffic-more-build-more-opportunities? Pdf) provides an interesting prediction. Proctor wrote: "because the network has started to become a software feature and applications that take over ubiquitous and programmable networks are constantly changing, This orthodox approach (building an elastic Data Center) it will be challenged. For example, building a data center that complies with Uptime Institute's Level 4 standards will become unnecessary because the application will be able to easily resolve the problem of single data center failures in the future ."

According to Mark Thiele, executive vice president of Switch's data center technology, his predictions in his personal blog are very positive. Thiele said: "I bet that by the end of 2015, no new data center will be built on an active floor. This design is very old and has been outdated for many years. The cost of the active floor is too high, more maintenance is required, and heavy loads are prone to problems (heavy server racks), and air cooling capabilities are limited for environments with higher density."

One thing in common

The above predictions and rankings are the results of an unscientific survey. Although not quite scientific, there is still one thing in common, that is, flexibility is needed. In the future, the data center needs to be abnormal and flexible. Customers want to quickly make major decisions to change game rules and reduce the risks they face.
