The Peer-to-peer full name Peer-to-peer can be defined as: a class of systems and applications that use distributed resources in a decentralized way to accomplish mission-critical tasks. The definition has two points to explain: 1, resources-including computing capacity, data, network bandwidth, etc. 2, key tasks-distributed computing, file sharing, platform services, collaborative communications. For the general user community, the most used of course is file sharing. This kind of software has several typical representative: BT, Electric Donkey, Thunder, QQ live broadcast, PPStream etc.

The following figure is a hybrid Peer-to-peer structure diagram, the most common one:

Fig. 1 mixed-type Peer-to-peer structure diagram

Peer-to-peer software in the download (download), but also for other users to provide upload (upload), so will not increase as the number of users to reduce the download speed. Simply put: The more people download, the faster.

Then, on the map to see how the specific work of BT: First, there is a tracker server, to provide seed download, while the original file into the Z section, a in the server randomly downloaded the nth part, b in the server randomly downloaded the section m, So A's BT will be based on the situation to B's computer to get B has been downloaded good m part, B BT will be based on the situation to a computer to get a has been downloaded good n, so that the server-side load is relatively small, but also speed up the user side (A, B) download speed, efficiency also increased, It also reduces geographical constraints. For example, C to connect to the server to download words may only a few k, but if to a and B of the computer to get a lot faster. So the more people you use, the more people you download, the quicker you will be. And, as you download it, you're uploading it (someone else takes a piece of that file from your computer).

The principles of other peer-to-peer software are similar.

BT and other software in the download and as a seed for others to provide download services, because ADSL uplink bandwidth is only 512K, so using Peer-to-peer software is more likely to cause LAN export uplink bandwidth congestion, but any internet operation requires uplink/downlink two direction of traffic, if the uplink bandwidth is occupied, Will affect the use of all users, performance is slowed. Therefore, the proposed use of BT, upload speed should not be set too large, otherwise, will affect the download speed. The reason is that the upload speed is too large, will lead to uplink bandwidth congestion.

From Peer-to-peer software applications, some people are happy, others worry. Hi is free to download a large number of files, the worry is that the network bandwidth is heavily occupied, affecting the network performance. So, in order to better use peer-to-peer software, how to set up the router?

First, after the router, BT download speed slows down, how to do?

In this case, you only need to do in the "forwarding rule-Virtual server" to do the "listening port to the intranet host" mapping can solve the problem.

As shown in the picture, here is just an example. The service port refers to the listening port used by BT software, which can change the listening port manually in the software, and the IP address is to use the host IP of BT software.

Second, many people use peer-to-peer software, resulting in network performance degradation, slow speed. So, in the router, how to limit the use of Peer-to-peer software?

This can be divided into several types of routers: general routers (such as R410, such as Soho routers), with IP QoS functions of routers (such as r480t, R4000, etc.), with IP QoS features and the number of connection limitations of the router (such as R4148, etc.).

There are several ways to limit Peer-to-peer software, which are applicable to these types of routers, respectively:

1. Seal Port

This method can only limit the use of Peer-to-peer software in a small scope, the effect is not very good, because a lot of peer-to-peer software can manually specify the listening port, even if you can not manually specify the listening port, the software itself to use the listening port range is also relatively large, usually 0~65535. If you just browse the Web, send and receive mail, QQ and other applications, you can completely put most of the ports do not need to be banned. Of course, such a multiport, specifically to prohibit which ports, it depends on your own, as long as it does not affect your work, life on the line. This limits the effect of this type of port is: the intranet in the use of Peer-to-peer host can connect to the external network main opportunities are much less, but, and can not completely limit the application of Peer-to-peer software. Can be set up in the "Security settings-ip address filtering", the following figure to Thunder as an example, because the Thunder server is usually used 3076,3077,3078 these three ports and client communications, so the closure of these three ports, thunder download speed will be reduced a lot. Similar methods are used to monitor ports on other Peer-to-peer software.

The listening port number used by Peer-to-peer software is given below.

Common Peer-to-peer Software

Protocol/Port number

Bit Elf

tcp:16881

Electric Donkey emule

tcp:4661, 4662, 4242

Thunder

tcp:3076, 3077, 3078

Kugoo

tcp:3318, 7000

QQ Live

udp:13000~14000

PPLive

tcp:8008 udp:4004

Here, it is best to shield off some of the tracker server common ports, the tracker server uses the port is usually the TCP protocol 81, 82, 6969, 8000, 8001, 8080.

2, to prevent access to the more famous BT website

This method prevents access to the BT Web site. For example: Btchina, Movie Empire and so on. At the same time, can also block the tracker server. Relatively large tracker servers are: btfans.3322.org, bt.5qzone.net. You can set it in security settings-domain name filtering, as shown in the figure:

The above two methods apply to "general router", although not completely prevent the use of Peer-to-peer software, but also a little bit of effect.

3. Limit the bandwidth of single machine

Using this method, all the hosts in the intranet are uniformly speed-limited, and the bandwidth usage status of each host is the same, without the advantages and disadvantages. Because the uplink bandwidth of ADSL is very small, therefore, special attention should be paid to limit the uplink bandwidth of a single machine. This approach applies to routers with IP QoS features. As shown in figure:

4, limit the number of stand-alone connections

Use this method to limit the number of connections to all hosts on the intranet, and to maintain some connection entries for the application, mainly based on the router doing NAT conversion. Peer-to-peer software uses a lot of the number of connections, and the router itself can tolerate a limited number of connections, so when the number of connections to the host limit in a range, will effectively maintain the number of connections to the router. This approach is applicable to routers with the connection number limit feature.

Some of the methods described above, the effect is better, or the third, fourth way.
