Preface

The company's IOS testing machine quickly reached Apple's 100 limit, and because the new iPad was launched, we needed a new quota to test the new iPad, so I carefully studied Apple's rules on the upper limit of 100 testing devices. Rules

The rules I have summarized are as follows (the original document is attached to facilitate correspondence ):

• Each developer's membership year can only increase the number of devices for 100 times. If you add a device and then delete it, the quota will not be restored.

You can register up to 100 devices per year for development purposes. Any devices added, then later removed, still count towards your maximum number of registered devices per year.

• At the beginning of every developer's membership year, the team agent and Admin roles can delete some devices to restore the qualification, or clear all devices to restore the quota of up to 100 devices. This operation can be used after the team agent and Admin start on a new membership year. When using this operation, you must delete the device that needs to be deleted first, then you can add devices to be added. Once a new device is added, the device is deleted to restore the device quota.

At the start of a new membership year, Team agents and admins can remove devices and restore the available device count for their development team to 100 devices.

When team agents or admins first sign in to the IOS provisioning portal at the start of a new membership year, they will be presented with the option to remove devices and restore the device count for those removed devices.

Important Note: At the start of your membership year, make sure to remove all devices you no longer use for development prior to adding any new devices.

• In the future for the entire membership year, no new quota will be added for deleting devices.

Removing devices during your membership year will not open these slots to add new devices.

Example

The rules are obscure. For example:

Assume that you have added 70 devices and deleted 10 devices in the first year. At this time, although the number of devices is 60, however, only 30 testing machines are available.

In the second year, you acquired the developer identity. After you log in for the first time, you can see that your available devices have been restored to 100-60 = 40. At this time, you can delete some devices. For example, if you delete 20 more devices, the number of places becomes 60. Then you added a device because you chose to add a new device. Apple thought that you had abandoned the chance of deleting the device to restore the number of devices. In this way, your quota is fixed to 59. No new quota will be added for devices to be deleted in the future. This will not happen until your next membership year begins.

Summary

Therefore, no matter what you say, the number of available test devices under your account will never exceed 100. As some people may think, the number of places in a single year will change to 100. In addition, if you delete a device each year to restore the device quota, the device quota will not be restored after the device is deleted.

What if I need to add new devices when the number of devices reaches the upper limit? We met this situation not long ago. Our solution is to send an email to Apple's technical customer service asking them to help us delete all the devices and restore them to an additional 100 testing devices. After two days, Apple finally agreed and helped us solve the problem.
