Turn on Windows 8 Self-V feature to create virtual machines

The Hyper-V component was early equipped with a Microsoft Windows Server for easy creation and management of virtualized server computing environments. The Windows 8 system is the first to integrate the enterprise's Hyper-V functionality into a personal system, similar to that of VMware and VirtualBox virtual machine software. With Hyper-V capabilities, Windows 8 systems can easily create virtual machines directly.

The use of Hyper-V functionality in WIN8 requires the following.

System requirements: Both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 8 can turn on Hyper-V functionality, but only 64-bit Windows 8 can create virtual machines, and 32-bit systems cannot, and can only link to virtual machines. Because the 32-bit system supports a maximum of 4G of memory, even if the virtual machine function is turned on, it will not get a good experience, so the function of the virtual machine is eliminated in the 32-bit system.

Device requirements: Hyper-V requires two-level address translation (SLAT) and supports virtualized CPUs (AMD-V or INTEL-VT).

Enable Win8 Hyper-V features

In the WIN8 system, the Hyper-V feature is turned off by default, and we first need to enable this feature. First enter the control panel of the WIN8 system and select "program". In the Programs panel, select Enable or turn off Windows features.

Check the "Hyper-V" feature option in the Windows Features dialog box and click OK.

Note: If the system and hardware conditions are not met, the Hyper-V feature option appears dimmed and is not selectable.

After starting the Hyper-V feature of the WIN8 system, you need to reboot the system to complete the startup of the Windows Virtual Machine monitor and virtual machine Management Service.

After restarting the WIN8 system, you can see the Hyper-V-related application tiles in the Start screen.

By selecting the Hyper-V Manager Tile, the system automatically enters the traditional Windows desktop and opens the Hyper-V manager. We can see a brief introduction to Hyper-V in Hyper-V Manager, the Hyper-V server named after the current computer name in the left-hand column is the local server, and you can connect to the remote Hyper-V server by clicking the "Connect to Server" option on the right-hand side. If the local server is not displayed, either Hyper-V is not installed successfully or the associated service is not turned on, or the CPU is not supported.

Please click on the "next page" and we'll see how to create a virtual machine in the Hyper-V Manager of the WIN8 system.

Create a local virtual machine in Win8 's Hyper-V Manager

Select the local server (name "WIN8") in the Hyper-V Manager interface, and then select New-Virtual machine in the right column.

The WIN8 system enters the new Virtual Machine Wizard, which leads users to easily create local virtual machines. Where the user can set the name of the virtual machine, storage location (including the virtual machine information and snapshot storage location, we recommend to choose as much space as possible), allocating memory size, network configuration (Virtual network card), virtual hard disk, installation options (whether operating system installation) and so on. Finally, we can see the current configuration information in the summary and click "Finish" after confirming the error.

For a moment, when the virtual machine is created, we can see our new virtual machine in Hyper-V manager.

Double-click the virtual machine we just created to enter the virtual machine operation interface.

Virtual machines that do not have a system installed are not available, and if you need to install the operating system in this virtual machine, you can load the system installation disk mirrors (such as WinXP or Win8 or even Mac OS and Linux OS Installation CD-ROM images) through virtual drives in the virtual machine. or in the optical drive directly into the system installation CD-ROM, this virtual CD-ROM can be used to boot the virtual machine to boot, and then install the operating system to the virtual machine.

The operating systems supported by Hyper-V are: Windows Server 2008 32&64 bit, 32&64 bit above Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows 2000, Windows 7 32&64 bit, Windows Vista 32&64 bit, Windows XP 32&64 bit. After the system is installed, click on the power switch button in the upper left corner to start the operating system in the virtual machine.

Because Hyper-V supports the virtual Switch function, the network card in the virtual system must be connected to the virtual switch before it can connect. Create a virtual Switch in Hyper-V you can select Virtual Switch Manager in the action Bar on the right side of the manager and choose New Virtual network switch. After the virtual switch is successfully established, the virtual network card can be connected to the virtual switch, and the virtual system can connect the network through the virtual network card.

The above is a brief introduction to the WIN8 system with the features of Hyper-V, and the opening of the function and the creation of virtual machines, Win8 This feature for some need to use the virtual machine friends to provide a lot of convenience.

Entering January 2013, Windows 8 Preview will expire soon, and Microsoft Windows 8 System 98-yuan upgrade offer is coming to an end. In particular, to remind you to upgrade the Windows 8 System Plan friends, may wish to seize the current preferential activities and cold to promote the opportunity to complete WIN8 upgrade, so as not to miss preferential opportunities.
