  • Design tips: optimize links on the internal page
Website availability is related to how much time it can save for users. The higher the website availability, the higher the user experience, and the longer the user stays on the website. When an inexperienced user accesses an internal page through a deep link on your website, the first time they spend an average of 60 seconds there, experienced users spend 45 seconds accessing an internal page for the first time.

One of the main reasons to support deep links is that, compared with the home page, users can fully read the content on the internal pages of the website.

We can see that the internal page and the Home Page share the same phenomenon: with the increase of experience, people scan the first page to speed up, at the same time, it is faster to decide what they want to do on the website. Compared with accessing a home page, when a user enters an internal page, they will spend 70% ~ More than 80% of the time to review their website location, because the internal pages they visit have a more direct relationship with their tasks.

Since the user Spends 45 ~ 60 seconds, so theoretically, they may read about 200 words. However, they usually spend some time evaluating the website's navigation system and deciding where to go next. However, they may still read 1 00 words, which is the same as reading only 1 O ~ There are quite a few 2n small words. One of the main reasons to support deep links is that users will read more content on the internal pages of the website.

Comparison between homepage and internal page

Time spent using web experience on the home page on the internal page
Less than 35 seconds 60 seconds
25 seconds and 45 seconds with rich experience

Compared with the home page, people spend more time on internal pages. We can see that users with more web experience can scan the screen at a faster speed, while new users prefer to watch the screen carefully.

When users browse a website and access its internal pages, they spend an average of 27 seconds on each page. This very short time emphasizes the importance of the following design points: on each page, users need to be clear about what they want. People don't have time to read everything, so they will make judgments on the page within seconds.

Design tips: optimize links on the internal page

For about half a minute on the internal page, the user uses most of the content area instead of the navigation area. Important links should be placed in this area so that users will probably see them.

For example, a user is studying a music player and has come to the ip0ds product page on the Apple website. On average, people will read about the amount of text highlighted in red boxes. In fact, the user does not read these two paragraphs word by word, but browses the above sections, and each section will only see less than half of the content. You will use the remaining parts in-60 seconds to view photos, browse functional lists organized in the form of pagination, and other content on the page. This page contains a total of 523 words (including a disclaimer not displayed here), which will take two minutes for normal users to read, this is more than twice the time the user may spend on the page. The text on the page is written according to the reading level of the eighth grade, which meets our suggestions for adult users. However, it is too difficult for many teenagers, and they happen to be a very important target user of this product.

You can click the locations on the page to navigate to other locations on the same website. Here, the data is obtained by averaging 4719 clicks.
