At work, there are still a lot of files to be printed by the Organization, but it is really inconvenient to connect a laptop to a printer, in this way, my notebook colleagues only need to copy files to the printing room or the office desktop computer to print the files. It is really troublesome to copy the files after a long time, as a result, many colleagues wanted to set up a shared print for the printer, and then shared it on their computers through the wireless network of the unit.
To facilitate the remote printing of colleagues, I set up a wireless network printing server in the Organization, so that colleagues can print the files to be printed on any computer through the printing server, in addition, we can remotely manage the printing server through web pages.
Differences between network printing and Shared printing
In the early days, Shared printing was performed by connecting a computer on the network to a printer and setting it to the sharing mode. Other computers should share the printer and connect it through sharing, in this way, printing and sharing can be realized. If there are more users using a shared printer, the computer connecting to the printer will be overwhelmed and it may be difficult to manage.
A network printer is an Internet-based network print. It is no longer a peripheral, but a node on the network. A network printer connects directly to the network through a network cable slot, remote Management through the Web enables high-speed printing and output at the network speed.
Print Server SETUP
Network Printing requires a printer with a network printing server, but the price of such a printer is not cheap. To save costs and make full use of existing resources, I Virtualize an old computer in the organization into a printing server, so that my colleagues can easily print the network in the LAN.
First, make sure that the computer is installed with Windows Server 2003 and can be normally connected to the LAN. Then, connect the printer to the computer and open the "manage your servers" component, click "Add Printer" () in "Printer server", then follow the prompts to add the printer we want to install and install the driver of the printer.
In the "control panel"> "printer and fax" dialog box, right-click the printer icon and select the "properties" command. In the displayed printer Properties dialog box, set the printer to share mode and enter a Share Name ().
Then we also need to install the driver of the printer on the Computer Operated by our colleagues. During installation, we need to open the network neighbor on the computer and find the computer where the printer is installed, now we can see the name of the installed shared printer, right-click and select connect. Then the system prompts that a print driver will be installed on the local machine, select "yes" to install the driver of the network printer.
Set Web management
After setting the printer, We need to publish it through IIS to print the network. Start the built-in IIS program. First, create a virtual directory for the network printer.
Tip: in Windows XP, the IIS component is not installed by default. If this component is not in our system, we will first install it in "Add/delete programs.
During creation, in the iis list, right-click the default Web site, click "new"> "virtual directory", and then open the create wizard dialog box. In this wizard, we can follow the prompts to set a virtual directory alias, such as "Print", direct the directory to the installation directory of the printer driver, set "access permission" to "read" and "run script ". After creating a virtual directory, open the "properties" dialog box of the site directory, and select the "enable default document" check box in the "document" dialog box. Click the Add button on the right to add a default document name. For example, the default document for HP printer is Ipp_0001.asp ". Click OK.
When you need to remotely manage the target printer, run the IE browser program on any computer in the LAN and enter the URL of the Network Printer "http: // print the Server IP Address/print to open the management page of the network printer. When you click pause or resume, you can control the output of the printer as you like. If you want to cancel all the tasks being executed by the printer, click the "cancel all documents" hyperlink. This is just as convenient as operating a printer on your computer.
