Mac is very popular abroad, especially in the circle of design, web development, and IT personnel. Ordinary users like Mac to understand. After all, Mac design is beautiful, simple and easy to use, and there is no virus. So why do professionals have a special liking for Mac? From my personal experience, I think there are several reasons:
1. Mac OS X is UNIX-based. This is too important, especially for developers, at least for me, which means that the next bunch of useful UNIX tools can be easily picked up. If you are a Windows developer, would you install a cygwin environment on windows? You don't need flex/YACC, grep, screen, ssh, make? Many open source projects only provide the cygwin/GCC/make compiling environment. Mac is based on bsd unix, and all these are built in.
2. development environment. C/C ++/Java/perl/Python/PHP/Ruby/lisp, a variety of shell, everything, direct support, very convenient. You want to develop C ++ on Windows. Do you want to install a Visual Studio compiler? Or other C ++ compilers. If you want to develop Java, You need to download the Java SDK. Maybe you need an Elipse or netbean. If you want to use Perl, install a Perl interpreter, active Perl? You want python, PHP, and Ruby, and you want to install ......? Most libraries such as libraries, image processing, video processing, and AI are only supported in Unix/Linux. Mac is based on UNIX, so these connections work well with Mac.
3. Editor VI/EMAC. As a Programmer/IT staff, a good editor is too important, because the editor is required to write programs/modify system configurations. I spent almost 1/2 of my time on Mac Browser/email, and I spent about 1/2 of my time on VI.
4. No viruses/Trojans. After more than five years of running Mac, I don't see what the virus looks like. I still don't see the need to install anti-virus software on Mac.
5. No maintenance is required. If I buy a Mac, I will use it directly. What about disk fragmentation? No. Driver Installation? After the Mac is installed, the driver is ready. Reinstall the system? I haven't reinstalled it once in 5 years (I changed the Mac several times ).
6. concise. All the operations on Mac are concise to the extreme, avoiding interference with users as much as possible, increasing the productivity of programmers. For example, to switch the wireless network function, you only need to click the mouse once on the Mac, and you need to click the mouse multiple times on Windows (including some silly confirmation dialog boxes ); for example, to unmount a USB disk, you only need to click the USB disk once for Mac. For Windows, you need to click the icon in the lower right corner, stop the device, and confirm the dialog box multiple times.
7. Multi-Window switching. This facilitates the management of open programs/documents. I often want to switch between multiple virtual Windows, such as reading a webpage/email and writing a program/document window.
8. programmer culture. Foreign programmers have grown up in the mainstream of UNIX. This is different from that in China. Most programmers/developers in China started to use dos in 1990s. As windows grew, a group of programmers who used Microsoft tools grew. This also explains why Mac has developed so fast since Mac switched to the Unix camp. After the launch of UNIX-based MAC, it quickly won the attention of a large number of old UNIX hackers and new Web 2.0/Linux hacker because these loyal fans have influenced their networks and circles, blog, thus affecting the entire programmer culture. A bit like Ruby on Rails, it was initially a small number of people (elites) trying it out. These people feel good and are advocating it on blogs, seminars, and other occasions, as a result, the web development field brings a storm of Ruby.
9. Apple is cool. Each computer and series are perfectly designed. They are well-designed from the packaging box, brochure, advertisement, power cord, inside the computer, computer appearance, and computer software. Even tiny screws, have you seen the screws on the Apple chassis and the data lines in the chassis? That is also the design. Each Mac is marked with: Designed by Apple in California, rather than desgined in USA. Apple is so cool, "We are a California company ". Apple's confidentiality measures can be said to be the ultimate, and the product will not be available on the market unless it is officially released.
10. Entrepreneurship. Apple's legendary experience has attracted a large number of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, eBay, and Yahoo represent innovative and enterprising entrepreneurship. This is not a big reason, but it can be seen as a small reason why Mac is so popular abroad, especially in the United States, especially in Silicon Valley, especially in universities. According to the survey, in 2007, the Mac market share of American universities ranked first. After these college elites graduated, they took up their jobs and entered the society. In a few years, some of them entered the middle layer. How would they affect Mac?
