Summary of Chinese-based beautification of Debian + WindowMaker

Why Linux?
Linux is stable. But Linux is just the core, so we need more things. In addition to stability, we need a multi-user operating system with good performance, including documents, and excellent compatibility. Linux supports a wide range of hardware. I use Linux on i386, Linux, and PowerPC laptops. If you do not know what the UNIX system is, read the following link: http://www.unix-systems.org /.

Why Debian GNU/Linux?
Debian GNU/Linux is a suite of excellent software management programs that contain Linux as the core and contain APT. It is a free, non-commercial, high-quality, and well-structured system. You can install the software easily on a small hard disk (without drive letters or registry files ). There is no annoying license system or registration serial number that specifies the trial period. No virus. For more information about Debian, visit http://www.debian.org/intro/why_debian.

For more information about Debian, visit the following website:
Http://www.debianplanet.org/
Http://www.debianhelp.org/
You can download a copy through the following link:
Www.linuxiso.org/distro.php? Distro = 4 approximately 633 MB (CD-enabled. iso files, including i386, ppc, and alpha iSCSI systems)
Markybobdeb.sourceforge.net/elf is about 33 MB (A. iso file that can be started on a CD, including the i386 System)
Http://www.linuks.mine.nu/debian/floppy/ around 3 to 4, 5 MB (Install Boot floppy disk, including i386, alpha, arm, m68k, ppc and iSCSI systems)

Why Windowmaker?
In this world, not only KDE and Gnome are involved. I don't need a desktop environment, but I can still use KDE and Gnome applications. Some other options may be suitable for you: sawfish, icewm, orobus, amiwm, ion, blackbox, englightenment, and afterstep. Please let me know more. One WindowMaker is enough. WindowMaker is very easy to use, looks pretty, and works very smoothly, even a Pentium100 computer with only 64 MB of memory is okay. What does it look like? Here is my effect:

Preparations for installation:
Install DebianGNU/Linux, minimize installation, and modify your/etc/apt/sources. list, change the system to the unstable version, because we need to install the latest version of the software, although woody has been relatively new, but the biggest charm of Debian is the online upgrade, why not try an "unstable" version? It is absolutely safe after my tests. Then execute apt-getupdate. Next, install some basic software. If necessary, this aims to facilitate some friends who need to compile sound cards or video cards. Of course, if your system is fully compatible with hardware, let's take a look at the next step.

Apt-get install xfree86-common xserver-xfree86 xserver-common xbase-clients xfonts-base

This step installs the most basic X Window System, and we can use the dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 to prepare our X System. Of course I recommend you install xfonts-100dpi and xfonts-75dpi two character bag. Or use the X Window System Option in tasksel to install the X System. Of course, do not install KDE and Gnome. Our goal is WindowMaker!

Apt-get install wmaker-data wmakerconf-data

This step installs the most basic WindowMaker system. Before that, we recommend that you use tasksel to install the Simplified Chinese environment, because our goal is to prepare a Chinese WindowMaker.

Now we can execute startx to start WindowMaker. before proceeding to the localization, we must ensure that WindowMaker can start.

Localization:

Repeat the simsun font N times to add the simsun font file: Get the simsun. ttc font file from a channel. I found this font from my XP, So I copied it to the/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/xp/directory, then create two files in the directory: fonts. dir and fonts. scale, which has the same content:

11
Simsun. ttc-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-medium-r-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Ai = 0.2: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-medium-o-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Ai = 0.4: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-medium-I-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Ai =-0.4: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-medium-ri-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Ai =-0.2: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-medium-ro-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
AB = y: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-bold-r-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Ai = 0.2: AB = y: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-bold-o-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Ai = 0.4: AB = y: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-bold-I-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Ai =-0.4: AB = y: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-bold-ri-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
Ai =-0.2: AB = y: simsun. ttc-misc-simsun-bold-ro-normal -- 0-0-0-0-c-0-gb2312.1980-0

Then modify the/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and add a line in Section "Files"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/xp"
Add in Section "Module"
Load "xtt"
Delete Load "freetype", simply add a # in front of it.
Modify the/etc/X11/XftConfig file and add a line at the beginning
Dir "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/xp"

Because we have installed the loacles software package, we should have selected the system language environment. I chose zh_CN.gb2312. If you make a mistake, directly modify/etc/locale. gen file, and then execute
Loocal-gen
Export LANGUAGE = zh_CN.GB2312
Export LC_ALL = zh_CN.GB2312
Export LANG = zh_CN.GB2312
Start startx now and run cpanel. It may take some time. Then select the desired font.
Close WindowMaker and restart WindowMaker. The modified content is very important:
Modify the. gtkrc_zh.CN file under your user directory. This file was automatically generated by cpanel just now. I changed it to the following content:

Style "gtk-default-zh-cn "{
Fontset = "-misc-simsun-medium-r-normal-*-100-*-c-*-gb2312.1980-0 ,\
-Adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal -- 12-*-iso8859 -*"
}
Class "GtkWidget" style "gtk-default-zh-cn" style "gtk-default-zh-cn"

Continue to modify the. xsession file. I use the xsim input method. You can modify it similarly.

LANG = zh_CN.GB2312
LC_ALL = zh_CN.GB2312
LC_CTYPE = zh_CN.GB2312
KDE_LANG = zh_CN.GB2312
Export LANG LC_ALL LC_CTYPE KDE_LANG
Export XMODIFIERS = @ im = XSIM
Xsim &
Exec wmaker
Killall xsim

Modify the GNUstep/Defaults/WMGLOBAL file:

{
MultiByteText = YES;
}

Modify the GNUstep, ults, and WindowMaker files to change all the description fonts:

"-Misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-100-*-c-*-gb2312.1980-0, -*-helvetica-bold-r-normal-*-12 -*-*-*-*-*-*-*"

That is, the front is the Chinese font, and the back is the original English font, separated by, in the middle.

Okay. After the modification is complete, launch WindowMaker to restart it.

I don't know if everyone has succeeded?

Next we need to install some dockapps specific to WindowMaker, that is, the row on the left of the screen. I recommend you install the following:
Wmclock: Needless to say, it's a clock.
Mount. app: This is a convenient way to attach and detach a drive.
Wmmusic: a software that conveniently controls xmms
Wmmixer: A Volume Control Software
Wmnd: a good network traffic monitoring software

Okay. What else do I need? Let's recommend it together.
